OOC: Okay, stepping in to fix my own mess. It’s just a single probe, fixing our mix-up on the whole asteroid area. The goal is to get more detailed scans of the anomalies in the region. More data!

IC:
“Lieutenant, Commander, I believe it is time to get the away team together. Good luck Lieutenant.”

Capt Foley - CO

Anxiety began to rise in Pilar as the crew awaited the outcomes of the launched probes. She kept her focus sharp, ready to act swiftly upon receiving any new information that could shed light on the situation they were facing. She hoped the Commander and Ensign were okay and could hold on until they could set foot on the asteroid and rescue them. Pilar asked comms, “Is there any hope of contacting Commander Cole and Ensign Metwin?”

Halcyone, XO

Zunara gave a curt nod, ‘I’ll meet you in the Transporter Room, Commander.’

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-

“Please go ahead, Lieutenant.” Pilar said as she waited.for the results of the probe. I won’t be joining you....unless you think I should, Captain.” She said as she looked at Captain Foley.

Halcyone, XO

“Your call XO, but I think we’ve got a pretty solid team for this mission. It should hopefully be a quick in and out mission.”

“In that case I shall stay on the bridge and assist the mission from here,” her eyes reflecting determination. “I’ll coordinate the probe data analysis from here and make sure we’re prepared for any developments.”

The probe showed the asteroid was moving at about 42km/s and there was nothing else in the vicinity. While the makeup of the asteroid hadn’t changed (metallic iron–nickel core, overlying rocky olivine mantle, with a surface crust), there were calcium–aluminium-rich deposits with some magnesite and pergium inclusions, especially in some of the many deep crevices. The magnesite unfortunately meant that detailed scans near the inclusions were fuzzy at best. There was no immediate sign of the downed shuttle.

As Pilar studied the probe results, she couldn’t help but wonder about the crew on the downed shuttle. She muttered to herself, “Calcium–aluminium-rich deposits… magnesite inclusions… those crevices might be hiding something.”

=^= Bridge to sickbay. We have arrived at the asteroid. Have a medical team meet Lt Zunara in the transporter room to assist in rescue activities. =^=

Now for the hardest part of any of these rescue missions, the waiting.

Capt Foley

=^= Sickbay reporting, Dr. Phylox here, there’s an asteroid? I guess I’ll catch up later. I’ll send an detachment of Ensigns to the transporter room post haste.=^=
Dr. (Lt.) Deltor Phylox, CMO

Aaron sighed as he made some mental notes for things to call out in an after action review. =^=Quick update Doctor, we have arrived at the source of a distress call. Hopefully it is just a rescue mission, and won’t turn into a recovery operation. =^=

Capt Foley - CO

OOC: Shall I start the transporter room thread?

-Kieron-

OOC: Yes go for it, Kieron!

IC: Back on the ship’s bridge, Pilar said. “Captain, the data from the probe is very fuzzy. There doesn’t seem to any sign of Commander Cole, Ensign Metwin or their shuttle. This troubles me.”

Halcyone, XO

“What about the distress call? Are we still receiving the signal?” Aaron’s mind was running through different scenarios. But the question was still, where was that shuttle.

Capt Foley - CO

Pilar shook her head. “It came and went. Nothing since the first initial transmission of it.”

Halcyone, XO

“Of course,” Aaron said to himself. “Let’s bring the probe back around and have it do a low pass over the surface of the asteroid. Also redirect power to the Challenger’s forward sensor arrays, and bring the ship in closer.”

“Aye Captain,” came the response from the helm.

Capt Foley - CO

As the probe transmitted more data and the ship’s scanners tried to fill in the rest, it was obvious that the composition of the asteroid was going to make very detailed scans very difficult. However, they were able to cobble enough data to get a general topography of the asteroid. The upper surface had multiple canyon-like spaces and the possibility that the XO’s prediction that the crevices may contain their quarry was increasing. Near one of those crevices was a scorch trail along with indentations in the rock that appeared to be the equivalent of a metal skid marks. The trace metals matched standard Starfleet hulls.

“Captain, I think we found something,” the ensign said speaking up from the science console. “The surface is as we would expect, except the sensors did detect one inconsistency in the terrain.”

The ensign brought up a section of the terrain near one of the crevices, there was a scorch trail leading towards the crevice.

“Trails are showing signs of metal. Metallurgical scans match the standard composition we use in our hulls sir.”

Aaron nodded while looking at the screen. “Let’s get the team down to the edge of the crevice, and see if they can spot the the shuttle. How bad is the transporter signal going to be in the area? And what does it look like if they were to go down into the crevice?”

=^= Bridge to Transporter Room. We’ve found signs of a shuttle sliding across the surface towards one of the crevices. I want the team to beam down to the site to investigate further. Perhaps they can spot the shuttle from there. I also recommend taking along a set of transporter enhancers, just in case. =^=

Capt Foley - CO

“Things are spotty, sensor-wise, but not completely problematic. If they go down too far, we might not be able to help. But, we won’t know until they try and test the enhancers. The deeper parts of the crevice, though, are not registering at all,” the ensign said.
