A little chime went off on the helm. NE Flys A Lot reached over and tapped the control to silence the alert before turning around from the helm towards the XO.

“Commander, we are 1 hour out from the asteroid.”

IC: Pilar nodded and glanced up from her console. “Thank you, NE Flys A Lot.”
Then she turned her attention back to the console, reviewing the mission objectives and the latest data on the asteroid and the surrounding area. She hoped it would be a routine rescue mission. However, even routine missions carried their share of risks, and it was crucial to maintain focus and follow proper procedures.
She activated the comm badge to notify Captain Foley, =^=Captain, we are approximately one hour from our destination. I am going to prepare the crew for the asteroid approach and initiate the necessary protocols including a security and medical team to safely retrieve Commander Cole and Ensign Metwin.=^=

=^=Thank you Commander. I’ll be on the bridge within the hour. Get the rescue teams prepped and the ship ready. Go ahead and transfer power to the long range sensor array, let’s see if we can get a good look at what we are flying into.=^=

Capt Foley - CO

Pilar acknowledged the Captain’s orders with a nod.
“Acknowledged, sir,” Pilar said, her focus returning to the console as she coordinated the necessary preparations. She inputted the commands to transfer power to the long-range sensor array, ensuring they would have a clearer picture of the situation ahead. Pilar then turned to Demil at the science station, who was diligently working on the sensor data.

“Lieutenant Lis, keep an eye on the sensor readings and update me immediately if you notice anything unusual,” Pilar instructed, her tone reflecting the importance of their mission.

“Acknowledged, sir,” Demil chimed in from the science station, doing just that. He tapped his own badge. “Lis to labs, is everyone at stations?” After a few moments, a NCadet responded, “We are, lieutenant.” Demil nodded and looked back to his sensor data.

Zunara stood at the rear of the Bridge, keeping a keen eye on the viewscreen, “Phasers are on stand by if we need them Captain,” he said steadily.

Pilar appreciated his vigilance and glanced back at him, giving a slight nod of acknowledgement.

“Thank you, Zunara,” Pilar replied, her voice filled with confidence and determination. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, but it’s good to have our options ready. Stay vigilant, everyone. We’re entering a potentially hazardous situation, and our priority is the safe retrieval of our crew members.”

“Aye Commander,” Zunara replied, keeping his hands close to the appropriate buttons on the panels.

Sensor readings came in showing that Rogue Asteroid 7OT381 was moving at 2520 km per hour and had been tracked as it moved relatively slowly through the Alpha Quadrant. It was oblong and measured 525 km in diameter at it’s widest.

It was composed of a metallic iron–nickel core with an overlying rocky olivine mantle followed by a surface crust. Along with some calcium–aluminium-rich deposits there were also inclusion of magnesite and pergium.

There was no sign of the distress beacon.

“No sign of the beacon on sensors Commander, just… quite a lot of asteriods.”

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-

“I suggest we dispatch a probe to help scan the area, ma’am,” Demil said. “It’s possible those asteroids are interfering with the scanners.” He ran a hand through his hair as he stared at the sensor data, trying to find any semblance of a lead.

Pilar considered Demil’s suggestion, recognizing the need for a more comprehensive scan of the area. She nodded in agreement, acknowledging his input.

“Good thinking, Lieutenant Lis,” she replied. “Prepare a probe for deployment immediately. We need a clearer picture of what we’re dealing with out there. Focus on scanning for any anomalies or irregularities that could indicate the presence of our missing crew members.”

As Demil began to make preparations, Pilar turned her attention to the rest of the crew.

“Keep monitoring the sensor readings,” she instructed the team. “We need to gather as much information as possible to ensure the success of our mission. Stay alert for any unexpected changes or signals that could guide us in the right direction.”

Pilar glanced back at Zunara, who had been diligently monitoring the controls.

“Lieutenant Zunara, maintain a high level of vigilance,” she emphasized. “We can’t afford to miss anything in this situation. Let us know immediately if you detect any significant changes or anomalies.”

With everyone focused on their tasks, Pilar turned her attention to the viewscreen, observing the chaotic field of asteroids before them. She knew that time was of the essence, and finding the Commander and Ensign amidst this hazardous environment would be a challenging task.
We’ll find them, Pilar thought to herself, reaffirming her determination. We’ll get them aboard safely, no matter the obstacles we face.

“Probe is away Commander,” Zunara announced to the Bridge as he finalised a command sequence on the controls, “Shields are also on stand by if we need them.”

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-

“Hopefully not,” Aaron said as he walked off the turbolift right as Zunara spoke.

“As you were, it’s your mission Commander. Where are we at?”

Pilar turned her attention to Captain Foley as he entered the bridge, swiftly rising from the center seat to make room for him. As she did, she provided him with an update on the current situation.

“Captain, you’ve arrived just in time. We’ve deployed a probe to conduct a comprehensive scan of the area,” Pilar informed him. “Lieutenant Lis is overseeing the preparations, focusing on detecting any anomalies or irregularities that could indicate the presence of our missing crew members.”

She paused briefly before continuing, her voice filled with determination. “Time is of the essence, Captain. We find ourselves in a more hazardous environment than initially anticipated, with a field of asteroids. I have already informed the crew that our top priority is to locate and safely retrieve Commander Cole and Ensign Metwin. Meanwhile, we will spare no effort in gathering information and maintaining a vigilant watch for any significant changes or signals that could guide us in the right direction.”

“I have no doubt about the crews readiness Commander,” Aaron said as he stepped to the side from the turbolift. He motioned her to sit back down. “The bridge is yours Commander, and it sounds like we are just about as ready as we can be.”

“Captain, if you’d like, I can begin a scan for the Commander and Ensign’s lifesigns?”

“Commander?” Aaron asked looking towards Pilar. So far she had handled everything perfectly, and he was willing to see how she would handle the mission.

Pilar nodded, acknowledging Lieutenant Zunara’s offer. “Thank you, Lieutenant. That would be a prudent course of action. Please proceed with the lifesign scan and report any findings immediately.”

Pilar turned her attention back to Captain Foley. “Captain, with your permission, I suggest we divide our resources to cover more ground efficiently. We can deploy additional probes and set up a coordinated search pattern to maximize our chances of locating Commander Cole and Ensign Metwin. I recommend assigning teams to different sections of the asteroid field and maintaining constant communication to share any discoveries or potential leads.”

She glanced at the viewscreen, observing the scattered asteroids that filled the area. “The asteroid field poses a significant challenge, but I believe we have the expertise and technology to navigate it safely. We should also remain cautious of any potential threats or hostile entities that may be hiding amidst the asteroids. Our security teams will be on high alert.”

Pilar paused, then added, “If we encounter any unusual phenomena or encounter any signs of interference, we should investigate further. It’s possible that the anomalies mentioned earlier might have a connection to the disappearance of our crew members.”
