In her quarters, Pilar stood at attention before the mirror, meticulously adjusting her uniform’s collar. As the executive officer of the ship, she bore the responsibility of leading and mentoring the crew. Today, her task was to welcome a group of bright-eyed cadets aboard the Challenger, who would soon embark on their journey through the vast expanse of space.

She took a deep breath, bracing herself for the challenges that lay ahead. With over a decade of experience in Starfleet, Pilar had served on numerous starships and garnered a reputation for her discipline, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the mission. Now, she had the invaluable opportunity to impart her knowledge and shape the next generation of officers.

As the doors to the orientation room slid open, Pilar promptly sprang into action, diligently preparing the space. Each station was meticulously arranged with PaDDs containing vital information for the incoming cadets. Once everything was in order, Pilar paced the room, anticipation building as she eagerly awaited the cadets’ arrival.

The counselor walked into the room and noticed the Commander. Bowing slightly; “May I be of assistance to you madam?”

Pilar halted her pace then turned her attention towards the counselor as he entered the room and respectfully bowed in acknowledgment of their presence. She smiled warmly and replied, “Thank you, Counselor. I appreciate you stopping by to offer your assistance. We’re about to begin the orientation for the incoming cadets, and I’ve set up the stations with the necessary information. If you could help me ensure that everything is in order and answer any questions the cadets might have, that would be wonderful. We want to make sure they have a smooth transition as the board the ship on take on their respective roles.”

“Will do madame and do not be afraid to summon me to help in these affairs in the future. I am always at your service.” He bowed again and began to look and make sure everything was in order.

“I am grateful for your support Counselor.” She said with an appreciative smile.

As the XO and Counselor were discussing the orientation proceedings, the doors to the room parted and revealed a bulky Bolian man in full Starfleet Security Uniform, phaser pistol holstered at his side, a pack over his shoulder and a PaDD in his left hand, “Ahh, thank god! I got here before the cadets did, wouldn’t look too good to arrive late on my first post out of my training cruise now would it?” He extended a hand to Halcyone, “Lieutenant Zunara ma’am, I’m your new Security Chief.”

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-

Sorazo smiled at the new CoS. “Welcome good sir.”

Demil slipped into the room in dress uniform, hands clasped, and walked over towards the growing group, silently observing. On his belt he’d affixed a PADD listing all of the new additions to his department and some relevant information pulled from their files. He stood just slightly relaxed from being at attention, a hint of a nervous smile on his face.

Demil’s presence did not go unnoticed. Pilar turned to him and greeted him warmly. “Ah, Lieutenant Demil! I’m glad you could join us. It seems our team is coming together nicely.” She extended her hand to him in a welcoming gesture. “I have a feeling we’ll accomplish great things together. All of the cadets from each of your departments will be in attendance. Is there anything specific either of you would like to discuss or any concerns you have regardingyour departments thatt can be addressed in the orientation proceedings?”

Zunara chuckled, “If you’ve read my file ma’am, you’ll know I have a particular proficiency for weapons and the engineering of such devices, I would appreciate a consultation with you at some point to see how far you want me to go with the cadets’ weapons training?”

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-

As Zunara spoke up about her expertise in weapons and engineering, Pilar listened then replied. “Yes, of course, Lieutenant Zunara.” As she slightly averted her eyes because she actually had not had the opportunity to read Lieutenant Zunara’s file yet. “I’m aware of your skills in that area, and I think it would be beneficial for us to discuss the cadets’ weapons training in detail. We want to strike a balance between ensuring their proficiency and safety. Let’s schedule a consultation to go over the specifics and determine how far we can push their training without compromising their well-being. I believe it’s essential for our cadets to be well-prepared but also responsible in their use of weaponry.”

Pilar looked back at Lieutenant Lis. “And how about you, Lieutenant Lis? Are there any concerns or topics you’d like to address regarding your department during the orientation proceedings?”
“Nothing during the general briefings, ma’am,” Demil said. “I’ll meet with the cadets individually to learn where their skills are best applied and where they can best improve separately, and I’ll hold a science department meeting separately to discuss our own procedures without taking everyone else’s time.”

Pilar nodded, acknowledging Lieutenant Lis’s approach. “Thank you, Lieutenant. It’s important to have clear communication and collaboration within the science department. I trust that you will ensure a productive and engaging orientation for the cadets. Let me know if there’s anything else you need assistance with.”

With that, Pilar moved on to the next topic of discussion, confident that Lieutenant Lis had a plan in place to address the needs of the science department during the orientation proceedings.

Zunara straightened his uniform jacket and gave the XO a two-fingered salute, “You can count on me Commander.”

Pilar nodded Lieutenant Zunara. She made a mental note to review his file as soon as possible to familiarize herself with the specifics of Zunara’s expertise and background.
She responded to Zunara’s salute with a smile, then she said, “Thank you, Lieutenant Zunara. I’m glad to have your commitment and expertise in ensuring the cadets’ weapons training is handled with care,”

Sorazo gave a low long whistle as the new CoS gave their skills. “I wouldn’t mind learning a thing or two about weapons training myself if that is ok my dear fellow? One never knows when one may need to have a phaser in their hands, but one always hopes to not to.”

The door to the orientation room opened once more and in stepped a Denobulan male. He nodded to those around and walked over to the assorted group. “Apologies for my lateness. I fear that I may still be a little shuttle lagged from the journey over.” He said and offered a apologetic smile. “I have not been able to meet with everyone yet, but.. hello I am Dr. Deltor Phylox. I am happy to be serving as the new Chief Medical Officer.”

To his own surprise, Demil stepped towards the new arrival first. “Welcome aboard, Doctor,” he said. “I’m Demil Lis, the CSO. I look forward to working with you.”

Deltor nodded and gave him a smile. “I am looking forward to my time here, and working with you all. I am also excited about the bright minds we have to teach here.”

Pilar greeted the new comer as well. “Welcome aboard, Dr. Phylox,” she said, extending her hand in a friendly gesture. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. We are preparing for orientation. As the new Chief Medical Officer, do you have any general knowledge areas about your department you’d like the cadets to take from today’s meeting?”

Deltor took her hand and gently shook it. “It is a pleasure to meet you too. As long as everyone has a basic understanding of most common species anatomy we can work with the rest. Luckily the LCARS systems have come a long way in the past century or two.” He gave a little chuckle. “That and biochemisty. Otherwise that can get a little messy. Takeaways, were here to make sure that every remains in exelent physical conditions and to study any new bacteria, virus, and the like in conjunction with the science department. Just as Engineering is the heart and veins, we are the life blood that feeds the body.” He said before falling silent thinking about if there was anything that he wanted to add.
