While the Challenger was waiting for their next assignment, Aaron had been using the time to catch up on paperwork. But there were only so many hours in the day that one could stare at a screen before just going stir crazy. So without any specific purpose in mind, he set off to check in at various places around the ship. First stop, the science labs!

Stepping off the turbolift, it didn’t take long for him to arrive at lab 1. As the doors opened, he stepped in and looked around to see who might be around.

Bustling from place to place, NCadet Tara Zayin didn’t see the captain until she almost ran into him. The young woman managed to stop herself just short of running into the commanding officer but her stack of PADDs went tumbling. Tara stood there, breathing heavily from the adrenaline spike of nearly slamming into her boss’s boss. “Oh my gosh,” she gasped. “I’m so sorry, sir! I was running around between experiments and trying to keep an eye on everything, I didn’t see you come in. Lieutenant Lis left me in charge of administration while he’s on the bridge.”

“Don’t worry about it Cadet,” Aaron said with a smile. “I was just coming by to check in with the Lieutenant, and see how everything was doing here in the labs. I’ll meet up with him later, but is there anything that you need for the labs while I’m down here?”

“I don’t think so,” she said. “We restocked before we left the starbase, and people-wise, everyone’s doing well. Always a bit of chaos, but that’s expected with this many things at the same time I guess.” She laughed nervously and bent over to pick up the PADDs. “Do you have any notes for me on what I should be doing when I’m left in charge, since you’re here?”

“Nope I don’t think so. Carry on Cadet,” Aaron said as he looked around the science labs. He was going to have to talk to Lis to get a better feeling of the department.

As the captain looked about, the aforementioned lieutenant stepped into the labs. Noting the captain’s presence, Demil quickly snapped to attention. “Good afternoon, sir. I didn’t realize you had planned to stop by the labs, I apologize for my absence. What can I do for you, captain?” His eyes scanned the lab as he spoke, taking in all that was happening and checking it against his mental checklist.
