Eliza located her room after receiving detailed directions from a passing crew mate and quickly got her stuff tucked away at her bunk. Checking her PADD she decided to get her medical evaluations done first before meeting her new CO. The counselor’s office was furthest from her current location so she decided to head there first.

Utilizing the map on her PADD she was able to reach the doctor’s office fairly easy. She was usually good at navigating new places but she still has moments of not being sure which direction to take in some places. Thankfully, the fews times that happened, she was able to find someone who was able to get her cak on track. Once she arrived Eliza took a second to compose herself then pressed the door chime.

Hearing the chime, Dar put down the paint brush and wiped his hands. “Come in!” He said loudly heading over to the finished part of the room that had the two leather plush chairs and a wooden coffee table. Next to it was a cart with pastries, sandwiches and a coffee pot and tea pot. Motioning for her to come over and have a seat with his left arm. The painting was of a lakeside bay with a very small town with the view point of the person being on a hill. “Make yourself comfortable and help yourself to any of the refreshments here. If none are to your liking, the replicator is beside you. My name is Sorazo Dar. How can I help you today?”

Lt. Commander Sorazo Dar, CNS

Eliza entered when she heard the welcome and nodded when Counselor Dar motioned to the chair Eliza should sit in and perked up when he mentioned the refreshments. Eliza quickly made herself some tea and grabbed a small pastry. As she sat Eliza took a bite of her pastry just as Counselor Dar asked her a question. She swallowed quickly before replying, ” Ah, yes um my onboarding checklist, it mentioned a psych eval as part of my orientation process, so um here I am! ” She gestured to herself with a smile, before remembering this was her new posting and she needed to at least try to remember to be professional. Her arms fell down and she tacked on a quiet, ” Um, sir. “

Srazo smiled at her like a father smiling at his daughter for doing something cute. “It is ok here madam. That is why I introduced myself as Sorazo Dar and not Lieutenant Commander Sorazo Dar. This is a place…” He waves both of his arms around engulfing the whole office…”to be at ease and peace. No ranks, no military decorum, no fancy whatevers. If someone comes here, even if it is for just a in processing eval, they already have a lot on their minds and don’t need the hassle of trying to remember every little nuance. Those things will come in time with practice and I have no doubt that you would perform them as graceful as a ballerina. So from here on out, please just chew your food properly and I will wait and you can just relax and be yourself. OK?” He sat down and grabbed a turkey and cheese sandwich that was cut in four triangle pieces and popped one in his mouth and chewed it and swallowed before continuing. “So. What do you want to talk about?”

Sorazo Dar, CNS
Eliza relaxed a bit more when Sarazo indicated it was ok for her informal slip. She’d been called out on that a few times at the academy and she still slipped now and again. She smiled at his compliment, ” I certainly hope I do, thank you, I’m so excited to finally be on a ship, though, that I doubt graceful will be in the cards for me for a bit, ” she laughed a little self deprecatingly. When he asked what she wanted to talk about Eliza looked a little surprised when he asked what she wanted to talk about. ” Oh, I assumed there might be a list of topics you’d have, as a kind of base line psych eval but then I guess psychology isn’t necessarily a one size fits all science is it? I suppose we don’t have time for.me.to.go.over my whole.life story, or do we? Should I start from birth and make my way up or should I go from the academy…” As Eliza had been caught off guard by the question and she still had her first day nerves her nervous tendency to babble was making itself known and it looked like she might keep talking for a bit if not stopped.

“It’s OK Eliza.” He said reassuringly. “I do have some questions that are required to ask but that is a regulation. I can get those answers without asking you. Meaning, that as we talk, you will answer those questions for me. I for one can get a better assessment of individual just by having a decent conversation and we have as much time as you need. If you want to tell me your life’s story, then do so. No one is going to stop you. But if you truly have something that is bothering you, then you might want to start with that. But if I am putting you on the spot, then I apologize. I know from first hand that no matter my rank, first day jitters or anxiety will always get to me. So you if you want me to start, then I will be more than happy to. Just say the word. Now. You are in charge here and can leave at any time you wish. I will not hold anything against you. Just know I am here to help, even if it is military matters. Just keep in mind I am not as an esteemed warrior as our Captain. But I know a thing or two.” He smiled and winked then took a sip of his coffee.

Eliza took a deep breath and smiled slightly. ” I’m just really excited to be on a ship and nervous too. I was in the academy for a few years and then joined one of my instructors at Jupiter station for a project he was working on. So for years I’ve been guided or had fallbacks in case I failed. It’s a little daunting to be out of that kind of environment. ” Eliza shrugged. “I grew up in a small community but knew early on that I needed more and I’m so glad starfleet has given me this chance, I don’t want to fail.”

“I see. Are you saying that you have a fear of failing or fear of not pleasing the ones you look up to? I will say this straight out Eliza. No one is perfect and we all fail at some point. You only really fail at something if you either don’t try it or give a half ass performance. Your instructor didn’t get to where they were at without failing once in a while. I can gage how you responded that you are not afraid to face a challenge but are afraid to face a challenge alone. It may seem that you are alone doing a task my friend, but in Starfleet and especially on this ship, you are never truly alone. We all will help anyone out the best way that we can. And since you mentioned your small community, could you tell me about it and why you knew early on that you needed more?” He reached for his cup of coffee and took a sip while he waited for a response. Eliza if paying attention would notice that the coffee cup reads “Galaxies Worst Counselor” on it.
