Dr. Rahm crossed her hands over her chest indignantly.

“Excuse me, Counselor. I believe that the Lieutenant and I were in the middle of a conversation.” Vesta sighed and softened her tone. “But if it’s important, I can certainly touch base with him later.”

-CMO Rahm Vesta

Jupiter Station’s looked between the two women a couple of times with slightly raised brows and almost quipped something about there being enough of him to go around, but wisely kept that comment to himself.

Pilar turned toward Dr. Vesta, as she placed her hands behind her back, like a Vulcan would do, a gesture she no doubt she picked up from her husband and said, “I do apologize, Dr. Rahm, for my sudden and rude intrusion. However while I am sure your conversation with Lieutenant Russo was important, I feel I have a more pressing, if not urgent matter to discuss with him. Therefore if you will allow me a few moments with him, I would appreciate it.”
She nodded to the doctor then turned back to Russo and said, “May I gather your thoughts on something?”

Russo winked at the doctor. “I’ll be back in a jiff, don’t you worry. I still have a deck plate to cut out after all.”

“Of course,” the doctor demurred. “Good afternoon,
Counselor–we still must get together for some tea.”

Pilar was surprised how easily the doctor gave in. However she was glad that she did because she did need to urgently speak with Lieutenant Russo. “Yes, Dr. Rahm, we do need to get together for lunch and tea. I also wanted to speak to you about a pilot cross training proposal which would involve your Cadet doctors being trained not only in internal medicine but in mental health as well. It was an idea you brought up when we first met and it seems to have a favorable backing by our Captain, although it hasn’t been proposed to Starfleet yet.”

“I’d be happy to hear it!” Vesta said, disarmed. “I–I can pull together some research on similar programs on similar-sized vessels to see if there are any precedents! But don’t let me take you away from urgent business. I’ll be in my office most of the day, but feel free to communicate me whenever you have the time!”

Dr. Rahm gathered her robe and turned back toward where her belongings were stored. She was still on the hunt for a specific book and perhaps the ivory-handled letter opener she was sure she packed with her.

-CMO Rahm

Stepping away, Russo considered Pilar. “What’s on your mind, Counsellor?”

~Mischief Maker

Pilar thought about how to form the words she wanted to say. “I am going to ask you to trust me when I tell you I cannot explain or divulge any further information other than what I am going to provide to you. Also I asked to speak to you privately because I do not think we should raise alarm concerning the matter at this point and the Captain has ordered me to proceed with discreetness.” She motioned her head in Dr. Rahm direction as she looked at him with raised eyebrows and piercing green eyes. “Captain Foley and I have recieved a message of sorts that there is a possible impending disaster awaiting the Sol System. However it is contiengent upon an action that should take place on the Jupiter Station. Therefore my question to you is do you know of any research projects or matter aboard the Station that has the potential to wipe out an entire solar system?”

Halcyone, Counselor

Russo blinked his light brown eyes and ran a hand over his dusty blond hair. “The amount of energy production for something like that would be beyond anything a facility would produce.” Uncertainty passed over his eyes. “I know Commander Greene’s experiments require a higher power draw we have to allow for and it is certainly more than the usual, but I can’t imagine it could result in anything on the scale you’re talking about.”

~Mischief Maker

Pilar thoughtfully touched her chin as she tried to think. “Yes, yes, you are right. Obviously whatever can do that much damage would have to be activated remotely and that can only mean the matter or device that will destroy the system has to already be in the Sol system.” She moved closer to Russo and said, “In light of this, I think I should let you know that the message we received came from the future, a warning. We believe we have the triggering event contained and under control, but in any case, if there is a detonator aboard the station, we must figure out what it is and locate it to avoid any possible and further threats to the Sol System.”

Halcyone, Counselor

A startled look appeared on Cameron’s face. “I don’t understand. Are you saying someone sent a message from the future that warned about something destroying the system? No bomb sitting around would be capable of that. This is Jupiter Station. How would that even be possible?”

Dr. Rahm rummaged through a container box filled with smaller container boxes. None of the few she’d opened had contained the book she’d been looking for, but she did pocket her letter opener made from kulloth ivory.

She wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but the eco in the cargo bay reverberated straight to her trained ear.

A message from the future? A triggering event? Nobody had told her a word.

And I’m supposed to be senior staff! she fumed to herself, shoving small boxes haphazard into the larger container.

She couldn’t contain herself. She slammed the container shut and looked back at the pair.

-CMO Rahm Vesta

Russo’s gaze snapped to Vesta. “Problem, Lieutenant?”

~Mischief Maker

Pilar squinted her eyes at Dr. Rahm and wondered if the Bajoran woman had been eavesdropping on their conversation.

Dr. Rahm wanted to keep her immediate thoughts to herself for now.

“I can’t find my book,” Vesta groused, shoving the container back into its place. “A book about the Bajoran forced labor colony on Gallitep.”

She changed her tone, sweetened it up. “I doubt you’ve seen it. But I needed a copy for my studies.”

She paused. “Can I help you with anything, Mr. Russo? I still have one more container to look over and I’ll be heading back to my office.”

She turned her back, eager to listen to what the pair had to say about this bomb or what kind of containment or trigger they were talking about. She opened another container with a thud.

-CMO Vesta Rahm

Pilar tapped Russo on the shoulder and said, “Why don’t we step outside a minute. I think sound has the potential to carry in the area.”
