Stepping through the doors to the Captains Ready Room from the Bridge, Grayson stopped and looked around after moving aside for the XO to enter. Of course, having just arrived the room was still filled with the previous Captains belongings which, of course, would be packed up and deposited along with the previous Captain once they reached Earth.

For now though, none of this was Grayson’s as his kit was still stored in the cargo hold of the shuttle he and Dr Frankenstein had arrived on. So, he moved to the replicator instead and avoided the CO’s chair. Technically it wasn’t his yet.

“Coffee, Flat white and no sugar,” he ordered and then turned to look at Foley. “Need anything after all that lot?” His English accent was clear and strong.

“Well I believe we are still technically on duty, so I’ll settle for a black coffee,” Aaron said as he stepped into the Ready Room. Looking around he noticed the last Captain’s belongings.

“Solid choice, respectable even,” Grayson smirked, and retrieved the requested brew.

“Sorry about that Captain,” he said gesturing at the office. “We weren’t quite expecting you yet, and that there would still be some more time to get everything sorted out. I’ll have a team in here to get everything packed up right away.”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Passing the cup to Foley, he turned and sat on the edge of the Ready Room desk. “No rush, my kit still has to be unpacked and when the replicator systems are running again at full capacity after the damage is repaired, I’ll set about retrieving the small items that I can’t carry with me that I generally have in the room. Till then, the ship comes fist and I can use the couch.”

“You’ve been on the Challenger quite a while, yes?” Grayson asked him as he sipped his drink. “Never considered a Command in the Fleet rather than the stint on an Academy ship?”

“Thank you,” Aaron said taking the cup. He took a small sip of the still cooling drink.

“If you can call a couple of missions quite a while, then yes. Previously I was stationed back at the Academy as an instructor, but I’ve done my time in the fleet. Before returning to the Academy I was XO on Starbase Magellan, out past Klingon and Romulan space. Probably one reason why they put me here on the Challenger when the position opened. Had the necessary command experience, and had the added bonus of my time teaching at the Academy.

“But as for a command myself, maybe someday. I started my time in Starfleet doing research. I’d like to finish it at some point. Though if a command came up that would allow me to do so, that is a different story.”

Cmdr Foley - XO

“Research?” Grayson asked, sounding interested. “Was their any field in particular that you pursued or where you researching anything specific?”

Captain Rhodes, CO

“Stellar Cartography. I had been conducting my own research into several unknown deep space stellar phenomena on and off again since I moved over to the command track. I had returned to Earth to fill in for one of my old professors who was taking a sabbatical, so that also gave me time to further my research. I was actually in talks with one of the engineering professors back at the Academy to do a joint senior level project. Developing a new type of deep space sensor array to help measure specific radiographic signatures deep in the Andromeda Galaxy.

“I’m sorry if that is getting technical on you Captain. Needless to say, it’s definitely one of my passions, and one I don’t get to indulge enough these days.”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

“Not in the slightest,” Grayson grinned. “My background is in Engineering, once I had finished my service in the main fleets I moved to Starfleet Headquarters and took up a position in Fleet Operations. Part of that was overseeing several Engineering projects that included placing sensor relays and buoys to gather data. It’s all important work, without that our day-to-day Fleet operations couldn’t function quite as well as they do. Now of course, we get to focus on the next group of officers that will be sitting in our shoes in twenty or thirty or so years. It’s quite exciting.”
