Stacks of grey crates rose on either side of the main section of the cargo bay, various colours tagging the departments to whom they belong. Itemized, cross-checked and catalogued, every crate had a place in the bay and in the ship’s computer.

This day, like many others, involved moving crates, cataloguing the new arrivals and ensuring flagged supplies were delivered to the right department. It was an often mindless task, but for Ensign Albert Morton it was beautiful. He brought a sense of order to the chaos of a multitude of delivery shipments and thus he made a great Operations officer. Working under the engineering department he was a resource allocator. Not THE resource allocator, but a stalwart of department. Maybe it was because he had little in the way of ambition that he hadn’t yet been promoted, but he was happy biding his time. And while he did that, he could have a little fun.

The cadets were an interesting bunch and he had to say that he really enjoyed working on an Academy ship. It certainly wasn’t boring! So as the cadets did the grunt work of checking in with him while they came and went to gather supply requisitions, he had taken to playing games to keep the whole process from being monotonous. And so, five hours into his shift and overdue for his break, he was trying hard to keep the energy up before he took a break.

“Okay, who is next? If you don’t know why you’re here, hand me the PADD your department head or whomever gave you and we’ll sort out your cargo,” Morton said, peering down at his master supply list and back up to the cadets and other junior officers doing their various versions of scut work.

P’Mala Dawes made her way into the Cargo Bay and was surprised at the size of it. When she’d first boarded the ship, a majority of the new cadets and all the supplies for the coming deployment hadn’t arrived yet–but there sure were here now–arranged in a way that was pleasing to the half-Vulcan doctor.

The CMO had asked Dawes to come to the bay as part of her duties, but she wasn’t sure exactly why.

Frankenstein said, find Ensign Morton, P’Mala thought. She quickly looked him up on her PADD and matched his headshot to the man with the list in the middle of the organized chaos. She lined up with the other cadets who were swarming the scene. At 6’ tall, she stood a head above most of them and tried to keep a neutral face amidst all the sturm and drang–even though she detested crowds.

After getting his physical exam and having Cadet P’Mala Dawes repair his right greater toe, plus his wonderful and embarrassing encounter with the ships captain, Captain Rhodes, received a message to report to deck 12, Cargo Bay, to an Ensign Albert Morton. Not sure what to do or why he was ordered to the cargo bay, With PADD in hand Cadet Baptiste made his way to the cargo bay, Who knows maybe one of those Lunkheads in resource allocation dropped a crate on themselves he thought sure could use a good medical emergency to distract me from my own embarrassing accident. When he arrived to the cargo bay it was an ant hive of activity. Cadets and other personnel where moving about doing various activities. Mon Dieu, comment vais-je jamais trouver ce liahona he thought in French, Crap, I have got to start remembering to think in Federation Standard or one day I am going to spout out in French to a fellow crew member and they will not understand a damn thing I am saying. As he scanned the crowded cargo bay he spotted Cadet Dawes and several other cadets standing in a line waiting to speak to an Ensign, this must be the individual I am to report to thought Cadet Baptiste as he made his way over to stand in line and find out exactly why he had to report to the cargo bay, since it was obvious there was no medical emergency.

OOC: Chris, what I’m doing here is “fixing a split” by adding my character’s response to the GM back to the stream of the narrative. Fixing a split is when two or more people post and it splits the post into to pieces instead of a single cohesive story. If you are posting and spilt the thread instead of replying, it looks like the other person’s post isn’t a part of the continuous stream. I’ve done the same thing here already! -Shaun

IC: “Johnathan!” P’Mala Dawes said, seeing her fellow doctor arrive at the cargo bay. “Come wait next to me. I think we’resupposedto bring some stock to the med bays, but I’m not really sure. “

The familiar face brightened her mood–at least she’d have someone to feel out of place with.

-Cadet P’Mala Dawes

There was a Human saying about something unpleasant running downhill. Since Taya was at the bottom of the hill, she was the one sent to the cargo bay to account for supplies and equipment for the Sec/Tac department. Stepping inside, she chuckled at the bustle, as it seemed both chaotic and organized at the same time. PADD in hand, she took her place at the end of the line.

Cadet Baptiste smiled his most warming smile at Cadet Dawes, **Great at least she does not seem to upset with my asinine request to try and cover up my injury. ** He stepped over to Cadet Dawes and replied “Well it is good to see a familiar face, I kind of feel like a fish out of water here. I had thought there may have been a medical emergency, but you are correct it appears we have been voluntold into being the manual laborers for the allocation teams. By the way Thank You for your help with my issue, sorry I asked you to try and cover it up, most inappropriate of me, especially to ask a Vulcan to do such a thing. I meant no offense.”

OCC: Thank You for the assist, still trying to get the hang of things

OOC: No worries–keep replying to the last thread in the sequence. I added Cadet Lenwa’s post in here as well.

IC: “Johnathan, after my misdiagnosis, I’m the one who should be apologizing to you!” P’Mala replied.

She scanned the hectic room, noticed the Security Officer Cadet Lenwa at the back of the line.

“There sure are a lot of cadets here–I wonder what’s going on. What did your orders say, Cadet,” she asked Baptiste.

-Cadet P’Mala Dawes

“No need to apologize, like I said earlier; my right leg and right ear are a medical conundrum for most Medical Tricorders and non-seasoned doctors.” replied Cadet Baptiste “As for why we are here, your guess is as good as mine. I originally assumed it was for a medical emergency, my PADD did not give any details other than to report to the Cargo Bay on Deck 12. By the way you may call me B.C. or Johnny, at least that is what my friends call me.”

“We’re here to see what supplies and equipment is being shipped to our departments,” said Taya. She pointed to a stack of crates. “See? They’re color-coded. You should have been given PADDs.”

Cadet Taya Lenwa - Security

Cadet Baptiste turned at the sound of another feminine voice, to see a young Betazoid female if I guess correctly he thought. Placing a charming smile on his face, he replied “Well see, that is the problem, all the orders on my PADD” he holds up for her to see “state only to report to Deck 12, Cargo Bay to one Ensign Albert Morton. It has been my experience in the past that Resource Allocation handles the supplies and equipment, and ensures their proper distribution.”

Taya glanced around the cargo bay as if she was making sure someone wasn’t listening. Satisfied, she leaned closer to the cadet with a serious expression on her face and spoke in a hushed tone.

“The security department gets super-secret information the others don’t get. We’re here for supplies.” She burst into a giggle.

Johnathan smiled even wider and laughed. “Leave it to security to get all the FUN information.” He replied. “Well I guess I get to help schlep supplies to Sick Bay, Medical Labs and the Surgical Suites. Though I do not mind taking the surgical supplies to the Surgical Suites, it will give me a chance to see how it is organized.” Cadet Baptiste stated. “By the way, my name is Jonathan Baptiste, a freshly minted Doctor and on my cadet cruise. My companion is Cadet Dawes, also a Doctor.” He introduced, “And who might you be, other than a Security Cadet?” Jonathan stated as he smiled warmly at her. Oh mon garçon, he thought in French, then remembering to think in Federation Standard I am sure going to have to watch myself, I am around two species known for their Telepathy abilities.

-Cadet Johnathan Baptiste, medical

“Cadet Taya Lenwa, soon to be admiral.” Taya smiled.

Cadet Taya Lenwa - Security

Cadet Baptist chuckled at that “Wow, rather ambitious, from cadet to admiral.” He replied. “I never recalled an individual going from cadet straight to admiral, well at least not with lots of years of experience behind them.” He replied warmly and with mischief in his eyes. “Myself, I want to be Chief of Starfleet Medicine one day, even would love to be an instructor at Star Fleet Academy; but I will settle for now just passing my cadet cruise without making to much of a fool of myself.”

-Cadet Johnathan Baptiste, medical

“Yeah, I know what you mean.” Taya’s demeanor became serious. “I want to make sure I don’t hurt anyone or allow someone I’m responsible for to get hurt… or worse.”
