IC: Taking the few steps onto the platform, Grayson turned and looked over the assorted crew that had filled the Challenger’s crew lounge for the small ceremony. Most Captains would pause and take a moment of pride in looking over such a fine bunch, but that moment for Grayson was spent assigning each one that did not already have one, a nickname in his own mind. For some, that nickname would change based on performance and actions but what he assigned them would do for now.

“Welcome everyone for joining us,” Grayson began and motioned to everyone with his drink. “to a special event for one of our own. Cadet Kalos Onovren, would you join me up here. I’m not one for speeches and like you,” his eyes made it clear he was noting the lack of dress uniform and the work stained uniform, “I’m not one for a lot of formality.”

As the Captain said Kalos’ name, Dael found a table to set his drink down and began clapping while the cadet would be making his way to the front.

Quickly brushing his hand on his pant to get rid of the crumbs, Aaron followed the move and clapped along with Dael while looking at the soon-to-be-promoted cadet.

As Kalos stepped towards the platform, Aaron stepped up besides the Captain and held a small wooden box in his hands.

Kalos stepped up to toe platform to join the captain.

“Cadet Kalos Onovren, Operations Division, Engineering,” Grayson began, “Has worked hard at Starfleets’ Premier Academy and throughout his time aboard the Challenger has demonstrated his ability and quick thinking many times, along with his ability to be part of a crew and demonstrate what being an Officer in Starfleet means.”

Turning to the Executive Officer, he smiled and motioned to the box and for him to open it.

“Which means that I get to do the best part of the CO’s job on an Academy Cadet ship. Cadet Onovren, congratulations on your graduation from Starfleet Academy. You have been assigned to the USS Asimov as their new Engineering Officer, and with that assignment you have earned your new rank. Welcome to the Fleet, Ensign Onovren!”

Now Gray stepped back to let the XO present the new pips and let all eyes fall on the new Ensign, and began clapping. As he did so, his eyes ran over the crowd in a very clear instruction that the crowd was to do the same.
