Working in space is a dangerous job. The void, the interstellar anomalies, the mysterious species that could kill you in an instant… We take a huge risk in space traveling. But as they said, the risk is our job. We are explorers, adventurers, on top of the knowledge humanity has. And as the brain is trained, the body needs training tooThat’s why Aaron was in the Holodeck 2, in a fully reconstituted gym, running on the treadmill. His vaccine development has been taking him a bit of time, and the consequences arrived quickly, in the form of cardio loss and muscle loss. Sweating at hell, grinning due to the effort, he kept swearing silently. The doctor that neglected his body,he thought with irony. What would they think of me at the Academy, uh? The program accelerated the speed, making him almost full sprinting on a 6° gradient. Damnit! No more sport skipping ever!
For over 30 seconds, he continued the sprint, before the treadmill produced a bip, indicating the end of the program. Letting out a big sight, Aaron gets down from the machine and took a bottle and a towel that were near to him. Taking a sip of water, he wiped his hair a bit a sat on a bench, breathing slowly. While he made his break, the lieutenant looked around the gym. Today was a bit particular since the gym was filled with people. One might think of holograms generated to make an ambiance for him, but in reality, those were real flesh and blood crewmen. For the next 5 hours, the Holodeck has been converted into a gym opened to all the crew so that the whole ship could train together if they wanted. Plus, with the arrival of the new cadet prom, it was the perfect occasion to make the event.
Aaron saw familiar faces around him, as Ensigns were coming in and out of the room, lifting weight, running on a treadmill, or even making yoga in a side of the room. It was quite pleasant to see the crew working out in the same room. This could be a regular event, he thought with a smile. I’m sure Vanessa would appreciate the idea, but I’ll have to tell the Captain about it.Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO
Henry was also on a treadmill, a few over from Aaron’s. He was about three-quarters of the way through his program when Aaron’s finished, taking it at a steady jog. He had earphones in so as to listen to music without disturbing the other officers, since his tendency was to turn it up a bit too loud, which could be a problem considering his unique tastes. As his song cycled through and he heard the intro to Kickstart My Heart start to play, he smiled and turned the speed up a bit, the rolling hills in front of him starting to speed by just a tad faster.
~ Lt. jr. gr. Rodier - CoS
Aaron saw Rodier accelerating on his treadmill, a determined look in his eyes and earphones in his ears. The Lieutenant thought it wasn’t a bad idea for motivation, but since he already was at the gym, he might as well end his session without his music.
Drinking the last mouthful, Aaron walked toward some dumbbell, picked his load, and started a series. While he worked out, a hologram of the gym coach appeared next to him in a flash. It was a muscular figure, short-haired and with a 3 days beard, like Aaron’s one, but better in every way. He was wearing a tank top and a short, along with running shoes. The hologram glared at Aaron and shouted: “You picked the wrong weight ! Change it now !” His attitude was meant to imitate a 20th-century sergeant-like figure, to motivate him and push him to his limit. But Aaron had forgotten about him and in surprise dropped the dumbbell on his feet.
Barely containing a scream, he clenched his teeth as hard as he can, bending and swearing mentally. After calming himself, he replied: “Could you at least warn me before yelling at me ?!”
Stoic, the coach says: “Change it !” Clearly, he wasn’t programmed for debate, and he didn’t say anything until the Lieutenant changed the weight. Right when he did, the coach nodded and smiled: “Perfect ! Now keep going, you can do it !”
Still mumbling at the hologram, Aaron continues his series with the coach cheering on him in a very caricatural way. I should have take my earphones, he thought with regrets.Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO
Daphne strolled onto the Holodeck and stood staring at the scene. Lifting her coffee mug she took stock of the scene. “Oh for the love of god it smells like feet in here,” she wrinkled up her nose. Normal people would see every corner of the space packed with buff security people trying to out do each other by running or lifting weights, mats covered with Vrksasana poses, and the few that were meandering the space looking for their next station. Daphne saw pulled hamstrings and lumbar strains, sprained ankles and wrists from yoga poses too advanced, and others just taking a lap around the space as if it were the lounge on Saturday night. It made sense though. The Challenger was a cadetship filled with the best and brightest. It only made sense the people in the room were super competitive and ready to take on the galaxy.
Daphne’s sport of choice involved a lot more clothes and wooden boards strapped to her feet. Moving towards the closest Nordic track.
