=^=Kalos to bridge, Tender and I are on our war to subspace control. However, the material composition of the asteroids seem to be made of a relatively soft material as the corridor here is covered in a fine powder. I don’t know if the powderization was caused by the shields the hull or even an explosive reaction caused by contact with charged particles as it tore through the power grid in this section. would you like me to collect a sample while we are out here for science to analyze?=^=

“I have lock on the shuttle, engaging tractor beam now,” said the Ops officer. A moment later, the blue beam of their tractor unit became visible as it reached out for the shuttle.

On the bridge, as the Ops NE monitored the shuttle and the beam, he started, suddenly looking more alert and tapped the console.

“Sir! Shuttle has shut down all power, our scanners detected a power surge moments before the shut down that may have blown some systems. They are powerless but the tractor beam has them, for now.”

“Understood Ensign. Get them into the shuttlebay, and have medical inform of how our wayward travelers fared.

“Lieutenant Williams. I need to know how soon we’ll be able to start your experiment!” Aaron called out as he studied the viewscreen.

Taking his eyes off the screen, Aaron looked back at NE Stevens who was at the science station. The Ensign crossed Aaron’s eyes as he was also watching the screen, and nodded at him with a serious look, meaning the modifications were done.

“Aye Sir,” The Ops NE said, and focused for the moments required to bring the shuttle in unpowered.

Looking back at the Commender, Aaron transmitted the deflector status: “We’re done with the calibrations. On your order sir!”

(OOC: I’m really sorry for the AWOL, I spend the entire week without any internet connection. My bad.)

Aaron nodded. “Proceed Lieutenant.”

=^=Foley to Stadi. As a heads up, Mr. Williams has come up with a plan to use the deflector to push the asteroids out of our way. Hopefully it won’t cause any more problems for your teams. =^=

After nodding to Foley, Aaron walked toward NE Stevens: “You heard it too, Mr. Stevens. Activate the beam.”

Stevens quickly pressed a series of commands on the science station’s screen, and the beam produced by the deflector appeared for a second on the viewscreen, as the electromagnetic wave produced a faint blue light and a little hum that didn’t sustain as the beam stabilize itself. Now is the moment of truth. If some unknown parameters we didn’t catch are disrupting the beam, we’ll know it in a few seconds, thought the Lieutenant with apprehension.

“The beam is online and stable, Commander”, add the COS. Even though the whole bridge has seen the effect of the modifications on the viewscreen, he felt like he had to report it aloud.

=^= Kyos to Rodier, incoming officers are secure. On our way back. =^= Henry turned to Foley, a relieved look appearing on his face. “The Captain is secure and on his way, sir. The CMO is with him.”

The beam worked and started to push the charged particles out of the way, “freeing” the challenger and allowing her to move out of the path of this field so that actual repairs could take place.

Watching the screen Aaron let out a sigh of relief. He had been pretty sure it would work, but there was a feeling of relief seeing it actually do as they needed it to.

“Lt Williams, great job,” he said turning towards Aaron. “Just keep that field running long enough for us to get clear. Helm, slow and steady take us out of the asteroid field.”

=^= Cadet, concentrate on making sure the computer core is stable and secure. Priority is to get shields up and running, just in case those asteroids try to come after us again.=^=

Shortly afterwards Grayson and Dr Frankenstein arrived on the Bridge, escorted by the Security team that had met them. Stepping forwards to the center, he nodded to the XO. “Commander Foley, I am Captain Rhodes and this is Lieutenant Daphne Frankenstein, the Challengers new CMO. It looks like you have had a bit of trouble, our shuttle certainly did. I’m not supposed to take over the ship until we reach Earth, but I am here to help.”

“I’m just glad that we were able to come to your rescue, as much as we could manage,” Aaron said with a chuckle. “I had hoped to have present you with a whole ship Captain, but unfortunately she is definitely showing some wear and tear. But welcome to the Challenger Captain, Lieutenant.

“We are just glad to be here, believe me. It was a close thing.” Gray said, with his own grin in return.

“Lt. Frankenstein, we could use your assistance in sickbay if you are ready to jump in and get your hands dirty. Captain…” Aaron hesitated. This is where it got a little tricky when it came to protocol. The Captain had received orders to take command of the ship, but it was for when they reached Earth. Until then he was temporarily in command. But at the same time, it was already known that it was only a matter of technicalities in the orders at this point.

Aaron took a deep breath. “I’ll leave it to your discretion sir. I’ve not had a chance to familiarize myself with your background yet, I figured I still had a little time.”

“Commander at this point you know your ship and more importantly, your crew, better than I do. I defer to your judgement unless that judgement involves putting photon torpedo’s into the next ship we see. Once we are out of this little crisis and get a beer or two squared away, we can double up on formalities.” Grayson nodded to the Captains seat and stepped aside to one of the Engineering consoles. “I did my time as an Engineer, I may be of more use at the moment in that capacity and I’ll check in on the crew in sick-bay as well soon.”

Looking at the CMO, Gray smiled. “You know your way or would you like an escort?”

“Well that might be a little hard as I think the torpedo launchers are still off line,” Aaron said with a slight chuckle. Nodding to the Captain he stepped back towards the center of the bridge.

“Captain, Lieutenant Stadi is our Chief Engineer. He was trapped in the Battle Bridge when the section he was in was suddenly exposed to vacuum. He sent an engineering team headed by Cadet Onovren to the computer core. They are working on getting the computer core in a state where we can get our shields back online.”

Slowly the ops station noted various systems restarting and coming back on line.

“He’s doing good work,” Grayson noted. “How about casualties? Did we lose anyone and is the sickbay secure?”
