With the Captain off the ship for a few days, that left Aaron in charge. Hopefully she wouldn’t be mad that he had done this one graduation while she was out, but orders were orders. And hopefully she wouldn’t mind that he was borrowing her Ready Room either…

=^= Foley to Lofton and Javal, please come to the Captain’s Ready Room. =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Javal approached the door to the Captain’s Ready Room, taking a brief moment to adjust his uniform before hitting the door chime.

“Cadet Javal, reporting as ordered,” he said, in that typically stoic Vulcan fashion.

[Cadet Javal - Doctor]

Lofton entered a few steps behind the cadet, her nod to the commander setting her bun into a small wobble. She took up a position standing off to the side, closer to Foley than to Javal. It was hard to hide her grin at times like this.

CNS Lofton

“Thank you both for coming,” Aaron said while nodding to Lofton as she stepped to the side. “Cadet Javal, front and center please.”

Javal took two steps forward, his hands clasped at his side respectfully as he awaited the news from his superiors.

Picking up a PADD from the desk, Aaron turned back towards the Cadet.

“With the Captain off the ship, this duty falls to me.” Clearing his throat, Aaron looked down at the PADD and read from it. “Cadet Javal, with the successful completion of your tour here on the Challenger, you have fulfilled the requirements as a graduate of Starfleet Academy. Upon the recommendation of myself and the Captain, in consolation with the Academy, you are hereby promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and assigned to the USS Chimera, as her Chief Medical Officer.”

At this, Javal could not contain himself as easily as his other Vulcan brethren might have under the same circumstances - indeed, the doctor thought that perhaps he displayed an intolerably high amount of emotion by raising both of his eyebrows at the news ever so slightly.

Turning back around, Aaron sat the PADD down and picked up a small wooden box. He turned back and extended it towards Javal.

“Congratulations Lieutenant.”

Cmdr. Foley - XO

Javal nodded respectfully to both of the officers that had handed him such a generous promotion, and accepted the box proffered unto him.

“Commander Foley, Counselor Lofton,” he said with a pause, “It is an honor to have this position bestowed upon me. I shall fulfill my duties as the Chimera’s Chief Medical Officer with the utmost of dedication.”

Although his words were delivered sans the quivering voice of a young non-Vulcan coming to terms with such great honor and responsibility, perhaps someone very familiar with Vulcan mannerisms could detect, underneath it all, a similarly strong declaration of resolve in his voice and manner.

OOC: Wow, I’m very humbled by such a promotion! Thank you so much for entrusting me with this!

[Cadet turned Lt Jg Javal]

Vanessa smiled brightly, stepping forward to the cadet - Lieutenant, she reminded herself. “A well deserved promotion, Lieutenant Javal,” she replied to him. “We have been very impressed with your performance here aboard Challenger, and think you will do us proud in the fleet.”

She knew from experience that Vulcans often had a difficult time in Starfleet - so many often-illogical beings (mostly humans), so many emotional decisions being made. She felt that Javal’s beginning here on the Challenger would help him do better than the average.

OOC: Congratulations Stephen!

CNS Lofton / Nathan

“Thank you, Counselor. It is good that my contribution to the Challenger’s medical department has been of some benefit to the crew, my relative inexperience in emergency situations not withstanding.”

Javal, perhaps like many other Vulcans, had no qualms about speaking truthfully and candidly about himself. After all, it would certainly be illogical to withhold such details and thereby impair crucial decision-making.

The doctor looked down at the finely-crafted box offered to him by Commander Foley. With one hand, Javal gently propped open the lid of the container to reveal two pips, one completely filled in with a golden sheen, while the other was filled in with black but graced by the same gold color around its circumference.

The sight of the simple little objects that would soon find themselves on his collar instantly reminded Javal of his mentor, Dr. Ven Miya. It had occurred to Javal at that moment that when he had first met Miya, she too had only just made it to Lieutenant Junior Grade and had been placed in charge of the Challenger’s entire medical staff. That her understudy would now find himself placed in the same situation was fascinating indeed, and the realization gave Javal all of the more reason to ponder his experiences on this ship and to remain in contact with those individuals that worked with and instructed him along the way.

OOC: Shout out to all my fellow Cadets and my old DH!

[Lieutenant JG Javal - Doctor]

OOC: Congrats Stephen! From what I’ve seen you are going to do a fantastic job on the Chimera!

-Dave

“Once again congratulations Lieutenant. Transportation has been arranged for you when we arrive at the next Starbase to the Chimera. Until then you are off duty, enjoy the downtime.”

Cmdr. Foley - XO
