Grayson’s hands calmly ran over the controls of the shuttle despite the sparks and emergency lighting making the small cabin almost as dim as the aether outside the shuttle. The trip to the Challenger had been going smoothly until they began to skirt the asteroid field, then something odd about the asteroids had invited disaster. Somehow asteroids had managed to strike the shuttle, bypassing both the ships shields and deflector and somehow only a miracle and prevented them from simply disintegrating on the spot, but the Geralt was in trouble.
“Ahhhh,” Daphne let out a little yelp as an impossibly small chunk of rock bouncing off the shield made the shuttle shake like they had been caught by a boulder. “You know this is like being swept up in an avalanche while traveling in a tin can. You sure you gahhhh,” she brought her foot up to the console as if it were a vehicle instead of a shuttle to brace herself, “thissss.” For the hundredth time since she signed the dotted line of her transfer papers, Dr. Daphne Frankenstien was doubting her choice of leaving her prior assignment.
“You want the truth or do you want me to lie?” Gray asked her with a grin, as a flashing light started blinking faster on the console and he simply banged it with his fist. It returned to normal danger blinking speed.
The two occupants had somehow managed to pilot the small craft within spitting distance of the ship that was their destination, but from where they were it looked almost in as much need of help as they did. “Looks like they got hit by the same thing we did,” Graysons voice was steady and calm despite the circumstances, at complete odd’s with the large spark from the dying console overhead that forced him to pause slightly as he spoke. “Hopefully they still have power enough for tractor beams or transporters, I’m not sure I can hold us together much longer. Did you have any retirement plans Frankie?”
“Yeah and for the record it is freezing to death in Vermont, not in the middle of space,” she tried to look calm however her body language and the way she was holding one hand towards the wall, the other with a death grip on the armrest, and both feet planted on the console relayed no sense of faith or trust in the trip over. “Oh and just for the record…I can’t really bring people back with a jolt of electricity as my name suggests. Just saying so maybe call for a little help?”
“Yes, Master,” he replied with a very slight nasally lilt to his voice, so subtle it almost might not have been there. Switching on the comm, Gray sent a message to the Challenger ahead of them.
=/\= Challenger this is the Shuttle Geralt, we are in need of assistance. We’ve been hit by asteroids and are losing power, thrusters are damaged and control is erratic. I’m trapped with Dr Frankenstein, request a tractor beam to pull us into the Shuttle bay. =/\=

“You have been going with calling me Frankie the entire trip and now,” she stressed the word, “you decided to send a call indicating you are trapped with a monster. Not sure about you Rhodes,” she let out half a chuckle and shook her head.

“I don’t blame you,” he sat back in the chair and waited for a reply from the Challenger, now and then adjusting the weird angle the shuttle was approaching on as the thrusters fired erratically sending the ship wobbling back and forth. “In fact if I were you, I’d insist on having a drink with me at the first opportunity after we get on the ship and things have settled down, you know, so you can figure me out better and so I can be sure my new CMO isn’t actually a monster or a shape changer or anything weird. I know I’ll be needing a drink after this. What’s your poison, you look like a Vodka kinda girl.” He had noted the way she was gripping the seat and bracing herself from the small impacts, and needed to get her to relax a little. That offer of a drink was far better than pointing out that if they were hit by anything that was going to do real damage and kill them, they wouldn’t have time to register that they were already dead. It was one reason his voice was able to remain calm despite his worry.
