Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

It had been a long couple days and Katie still hadn’t completed all the repair tasks from … whatever it was that had caused so many of the engineers to go berserk and start wrecking things in Engineering. After 47 hours non-stop, it had been decided that she take a break and the ne’er-do-well engineers who broke so many things could jolly well work at fixing them. So after a quick sonic shower and the first change of clothing in three days, Katie decided to see what the ship’s Nine Forward had to offer. She was a bit disappointed to discover no bar-tender on duty though there were a couple of available replicators.

“Replicator. Do you have the data to make blue curaçao?”

“I do,” the replicator said with a nearly perfect Martian accent. Katie made a note to check the programming.

“Excellent. A Blue Margarita and use curaçao, please.”

The glass with robin egg blue liquid in it appeared almost immediately. Katie took a sip and nodded approvingly. Someone with excellent taste had been involved in programming this replicator. Her time on Challenger was starting to look up.

She turned and glanced at the handful of occupants in the lounge.

Cadet Javal opened his eyes, the light of the candle on the low table in front of him gleaming in the darkness of his quarters. His repose upon the mat he knelt upon afforded him an opportunity to meditate and reflect upon the many events that had transpired since that day he walked aboard the Challenger. His eyes glanced over to his uniform, folded neatly on the desk, his Starfleet badge glistening in the light of the low flame.

His mind churned at the thought of it - the responsibility of the role he had voluntarily initiated himself into. While it was his own failure that had cost him his admission to the Vulcan Science Academy all those years ago, his position here in Starfleet presented a different setting. A setting, perhaps, where could learn to uproot that persistent remnant of illogic that had been so firmly planted in his psychology since his youth.

As he pondered thus, he closed his eyes once more, his mind conjuring up images of the recent past. He pictured the rage and the uncontrollable barbarity of those men and women who were otherwise his mild-mannered colleagues, ripping each other apart in a fit of delirium. While he fully understood that these engineers had no control over such a blight on their minds, the destructive force of their emotions was still evident. Indeed, even for those enlightened by the teachings of Surak, the chaotic potential of unbridled emotion was ever-present - ever waiting to sink its talons into one’s mind and wrest control. The ward to such forces was one he knew well, and was taught thus ever since his childhood. It was not despair, or anger, or even determination that led to the deliverance of those men and women from their diseased states. It was the workings of logic and of reason that guided the hand of the medical and science departments to reach a conclusion on their findings and thereby develop a suitable inoculation.

Javal opened his eyes once more and centered his gaze on the Starfleet badge on the uniform’s breast. It reminded him of his sole duty. A duty to himself, to his comrades, and to his people. As his forefather Surak before him, it was his duty to carry forth the enlightening principle of logic to calm the storm of emotion and indecision critical moments like one he so recently experienced. I will not falter again.

Some moments had passed since his meditations for the day, and the Vulcan soon realized that he was in need of some sustenance and, perhaps, some company. He anticipated that the Challenger would soon be headed for its next destination to pick up fresh Cadets - and re-assign those who had completed their training cruise.

Stepping into Nine Forward, wearing not his usual duty uniform but instead a comfortable-looking Vulcan short-robe, he took a moment to survey his surroundings, wondering if any of the other Cadets of his class were about.

OOC: I think this is a perfect opportunity to do a last little wrap-up for all of us if anyone else wants to join in! :D

[Cadet Javal - Doctor]

Jordy is sitting at his table when he sees his friend Javal He waves his hand to him and made a gesture to take a seat at his table.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

Fortuitously, it seemed that his fellow compatriot Jordy had a similar to idea to his own, and Javal acknowledged his friend’s invitation with a nod as he made for his table.

“Mr. Kleine, I see that you too were in need of a respite. How fares your preparations for re-assignment to the fleet?” he asked as he took a seat beside him.

[Cadet Javal - Doctor]

Jordy turns around.’It is exciting but i wish i could stay with this crew.’ Jordy said he takes a sip of his drink ‘I already started packing my quarters and i dont have an assignement yet.’ He says. ‘And you?’ He asks.

Javal took a moment to look around the room when he heard about his friend’s reluctance to leave this ship.

“The performance of this ship and its crew has indeed been exemplary. It is not often that a training cruise results in an emergency like the one we all responded to. Yet, despite certain difficulties at the first, we responded to the threat with reason, composure, and cohesiveness, and thereby came to a solution.” Javal likely said this loud enough for the young engineering cadet nearby to pick up on their conversation.

He looked back over at Jordy. “My assignment has yet to come in as well, but perhaps Academy Command might recognize our crew’s cohesion as an asset and assign the majority of us to the same vessel.”

[Cadet Javal - Doctor]

‘I hope so.’ Jordy replies ‘Do you have a ship that you want to serve on?’ He asks.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Uncertain,” Javal said simply at first. It had just occurred to him that he hadn’t really spent much time thinking about just what sort of ship he’d eventually be assigned to.

“Though out of nature of preference, perhaps a vessel best suited for long range exploration missions”

As he said this, he gazed through the large window that stood adjacent to where their table was. Through it, one could gaze out at the billions of stars that zoomed by in an instant.

“Although I am no longer a suitable candidate for the Vulcan Science Academy, Starfleet affords me opportunities to still be a contributor to the Federation’s accumulated knowledge of our galaxy. And, I suppose, put my research and medical experience to practical use.”

He leaned back and look back over at Jordy.

“Do you perhaps have a particular ship in mind yourself?”
