The Sickbay’s doors opened, revealing Aaron. The first thing he saw was Jordy bending over an antigrav stretcher, and around him were Miya and a cadet in a suit that he guessed to be Javal.

Trying not to disturb Jordy’s maneuver, the Lieutenant approached Miya from the side. He could see on her face she was quite worried about his first big operation as a CMO, as he was a bit confused himself. “How’s it going, Ven ?”, he asked her gently.

Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO

“Oh - everyone is working together as a team, but it’s been quite … stressful.” Miya managed a tentative smile as she glanced round the sickbay, checking to ensure the newly-transported patients were being examined on the biobeds. She dropped her voice so only Aaron could hear, the tension in her voice now all too evident. “I feel as if I’m about to enter the Fire Caves - if we don’t synthesise a cure soon, I’m worried we’ll lose a lot of our patients.”

“I’m worried too”, said Aaron with a little sigh. “But we’ll find a cure, I’m sure about that. After all, we saw worse than that, like… carnivorous Tribbles…”, he add in an over-dramatic way, hoping it would ease her tension.

Now that the last engineer was safely on the stretcher, Javal looked over at Jordy.

“Your assistance is much appreciated, Mr. Kleine. I believe we can take over medical operations from here.”

He promptly turned to face Miya to inform her that another patient was ready for her, but stopped when he noticed what looked to be the Chief Science Officer was speaking with her.

“Ah, if I remember the personnel record correctly, I believe you are…Dr. Williams? Thank you for responding so promptly to our communique,” the Vulcan said with a nod, followed by a quick glance over at the engineer to see how he was holding up.

[Cadet Javal - doctor]

Aaron nodded back at the Vulcan with a smile: “The pleasure is mine, Dr. Javal. I see you got the situation in hand with the Lieutenant.” It was easy to guess the cadet’s identity since he was the only Vulcan cadet in the medical department. Even though he was quite fascinated about Vulcan ways, now wasn’t the time for a little chat, but he kept his mind to talk to Javal later.

Jordy tapps on his commbadge and says =^=Kleine to Rodier we are done in the cargo bay do you need me somewhere.=^=

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Thank you, Cadet Kleine, for your help with the patients. Cadet Javal, could you do a full examination of the patient on biobed four, please? I’ll be back once I’ve given Lieutenant Williams the samples for testing.”

“Acknowledged, Dr. Ven,” Javal said, his hand immediately going to his tricorder at his side. As he made his turn around to face the biobeds, he couldn’t help but take a moment to look back and see the CMO and the CSO off to crack the mystery that had been plaguing the ship. Perhaps one day, he’d be there alongside them too, putting what skills he had acquired to work…

…But for now, he had another, almost equally as important task - assessing that his beleaguered shipmates were indeed recovering properly to what temporary measures were given to them before a proper treatment can be formulated.

With the benefit of the biobed’s sensors, the results so far seemed promising…the patient on biobed four’s fever was already showing some marked improvement, and it seemed that the other crewmen were doing likewise. Javal nodded to himself. A favorable outcome. Now, we must await the inoculation.

He would hold his silent vigil over his patients there until then, breaking it only to give orders to the NEs that were keeping it with him.

Miya walked across sickbay to the laboratory area where two NCs and one NE were working on the grapok sauce, sequencing the pathogen and running through various treatment options. The Bajoran picked up a covered box and held it out to Aaron.

“Here’s some of the grapok sauce Security retrieved from the quarters of one of the first victims. I’ll share our test results so far,” she nodded to one of the NCs, who started to download the information and send it to the ship’s computer system, where it could be accessed via the science labs. “If you and your cadets can combine your scientific knowledge with what we’ve discovered so far, I’m sure we’ll have a treatment soon. Hopefully while we can still save their lives,” she added, her eyes shadowed as she looked across to where Ensigns MacGuffin and Chekhov were lying, restrained, on their biobeds.

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]
Looking at the Ensigns lying in their biobeds, over sweating and grunting, Aaron felt the weight of his responsibility on his shoulder. Lives are at stake, and he was the one who will bring them back or the one who will let them slowly faint in the arm of the death.
Watching these ill people not only brings to him his sense of responsibility but also motivated him to create the cure. Not only because it was his job, but because he had to do it. It was his duty as a human and a Doctor.

With a serious tone, he took the box from Miya’s hands: “Rest assured. I’ll find a cure.” He then pressed his comm badge and says :

=^= Lieutenant Williams to All Science officers. Report to the Microbiology Lab and prepare the instrument for virus analysis, biohazard class 2. I’m on my way with the sample=^=

Before leaving, Aaron asked Miya: “By the way Ven, did you identify all the symptoms ?”

Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO

“It starts with high fever, sweating, vomiting and painful muscle cramps, then progresses to hysteria, hallucinations and near-convulsions. We’ve had to restrain our first patients to keep them - and us - safe. At least the pathogen isn’t airborne, that’s about the only good thing I can say about it.” She smiled at her friend. “Between your scientists and our researchers here, I’m sure we can find a cure.”>>>>

When Jordy heard the commbadge message from his DH he tapped on his commbadge and says. =^=I am already in sickbay sir so do i have to just stay here.=^=
He goes to Doctor Ven Miya and says ‘I think i am gonna stay here a little bit longer because i dont have any orders from my DH.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“Cadet Kleine, you’re welcome to stay until Lieutenant Rodier gives you new orders. Could you please keep an eye on the new patients that were beamed into sickbay? We may need your help if any of them become violent.” As she spoke, she remembered about her broken cheekbone - the medication was doing a good job of keeping her pain-free - and made a mental note to ask Cadet Javal to complete the treatment process in due course.

It wasn’t an overly complex pathogen, and all things being held equal a treatment and an inocculation were developed in fairly quick order. All that remained now was to spread it throughout the ship, something that could easily be handled by the NEs or cadets if they so chose.

GM Wombat

Jordy tapps on his commbadge To reply to his DH. =^=Alright.=^= He said. Jordy looks at the chief medical officer and says ‘Doctor i be staying here for the rest of my shift.’

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security

“I’m delighted to have you here.” Miya gave the cadet a warm smile, impressed by his cool competence. All the cadets she’d seen that day, whatever their departments, had pulled together in the face of the emergency; they would make excellent officers, she was sure.

OOC: Well, it looks like that’s that! Good job, everyone!

(OOC: looks like Javal has gone on to the main fleet, so I’ll just wrap this up from sickbay’s perspective! Please ignore my other post in the wrong thread.)

The sickbay NCs had been sent off with full hyposprays, following a hastily worked-out vaccination schedule, and the patients on the biobeds were already improving after their shots. Sitting in her office, where she had been reviewing notes that would eventually go into the sickbay log, Miya sighed and tapped her commbadge. =^= Ven to Captain Jacobs. The treatments are working well; all patients are recovering and we’re implementing vaccinations to ensure nobody else comes down with this pathogen. There’s a cadet on the way to the Bridge right now. I’ll also upload the information to Starfleet Medical, so other ships have the treatment available in case they encounter the same condition. Ven out. =^=

She slumped back in her chair, relieved that the first major crisis of her time as CMO had been and - almost - gone. There were lessons to be learned, of course, and changes to be made, especially when it came to reminding crew about the rules around checking any foodstuff brought aboard! But for now, perhaps, there would be time to relax.

With a smile, she activated her comm a second time. =^= Miya to Aaron. Please thank your team for their hard work - between Sickbay and Science, we’ve pulled it off! Can I buy you a drink in Nine-Forward when we’re both off shift, to celebrate? =^=

Miya stood, stretching, then gently touched her cheek. The pain medication was wearing off and it was beginning to throb. The Bajoran started to walk out of the CMO’s office, looking for the Vulcan medical cadet - Javal was a fine doctor; she trusted him to wield the osteogenic stimulator with care. Prophets, this has been a long day. Thank you for helping me to make it through.

Behind her, the doors closed, leaving the CMO’s office empty.

(OOC again: thanks to everyone who’s been involved in the Sickbay thread - it’s been a pleasure RPing with you for this main sim!)

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]
