USS Challenger

Main Sim - Environmental Controls

<snip>

Katie materialized in what, by comparison to what she left in the Engineering compartment, was a crowded space and immediately noticed that she was the only one wearing an environmental suit. The other thing she noticed immediately was that these environmental controls were damaged as well though not as badly as the one in Engineering.

“Just great. Did I miss the orders to damage all the ship’s environmental control consoles,” she said. Another cadet turned to her. “Cadet Katherine Hobbes, engineering. I’ve been a bit out of the loop. Can you give me a quick status report and any guesses you care to make about what happened to the Environment Controls?”

Aaron greets the cadet who just arrived by the transporter and greet her: “Lieutenant JG Williams, nice to meet you.”
He turns back and shows the damaged console. “Basically someone has destroyed the environmental control, one of the ills officer”, he said. “The major problem is that she lower the temperature before, and now the whole ship is frizzing thanks to her. I tried to access the controls, but it won’t respond.”

=^= Foley to Lt Williams. What’s the ETA on getting the environmental controls working again? =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO (crosspost)
Hearing the communication, Aaron said to Hobbes: “By the way, how long do you think it would take to repair it ?”

Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO

“I’ll let you know as soon as I know exactly how bad the damage is, Lieutenant,” Katie said. She put her toolkit down next to the damaged console, took out a scanner and began to analyze the console. “Well, its not the worst I’ve seen in the last ten minutes. And it does appear that most of the damage is on the exterior console casing… the display screen is, to use a technical engineering term, blown to smithereens, and linkage to the display is full fritzed but the interior looks to be all right.”

Katie stood and turned to the Lieutenant. “I need to replace the screen and the linkage, either with a new ones or ones that we can scavenge around here. And I’ll need to reconnect the power and sensor cabling. Assuming I can get the parts I need without too much difficulty… it’ll take thirty minutes or so to get it functioning again… a couple hours to get it back up to standard. All of that assuming I don’t encounter whoever or whatever did this in the first place.”

Aaron nodded at Hobbes: “Understood”. He then pressed his comm badge and send a communication to the bridge:

=^= The damages aren’t clear yet, sir, we might have the temperature back in a few hours. And I would recommend sending one or two security members to ensure the safety of the repairs since we don’t know what the ill staff can do to prevent them.=^=

“I’ll leave the console in your good hands, Hobbes”, he said with a smile, before leaving the room. He hurried up to the nearest turbo-lift, directly heading to Sickbay

Lieutenant JG Aaron Williams - CSO

“You got it, Lieutenant,” Hobbes said as doors closed. She tapped the wrist console on her environmental suit twice. “10 degrees and dropping. I don’t think we’ll be doing this job in shirtsleeves.”

The first thing she did was to remove the destroyed … which she decided was a ‘generous’ way of describing the unit’s condition… monitor panel and linkage cable and set them between the main console and the next control station. She quickly surveyed the compartment and settled on air purification control console.

“All right,” she said as she scanned that unit. “Show me what you have… and … good girl. You are undamaged. I’ll be borrowing a few parts from you, if that’s all right my sweet. But first I’ll just set up an alternate display.”

Tapping the screen, she locked the controls to automatic and rerouted the monitoring and manual control functions to a pleasant looking gravity unit. A moment later, Katie was able to verify that air-purification was operating nominally. She nodded as she disconnected the display and the linkage and carried them to the damaged unit.

“This is going quicker than I thought,” she said.

=^=Kleine to Rodier we are done in the cargo bay do you need me somewhere.=^=

Katie was surprised that there was no interference from whatever it was that had caused half the engineering team to go berserk. The display unit and its linkage fit into the damaged console reasonably well, though she was confident it would not pass the Chief Engineer’s idea of being up to standard. Repairing the cabling to the ship’s network of sensors was even simpler. She took a deep breath and activated the system.

“And what do you know. It works,” she said. A quick scan confirmed that the unit was performing nominally. She nodded and filled in the work-order for a more permanent repair for both this unit and for the one she had cannibalized.

=^= Cadet Hobbes to the bridge. I have completed a temporary fix on the damaged Environmental Control Console. It should be getting more comfortable throughout the ship soon. If there are no other repairs that need attention and transport is allowed, I should return to the engineering compartments to assist with repairs there.

Cadet Jordy Kleine - Security (Cross Post)

For the repairs, the initial estimate was correct and the over heating Klingon on didn’t even bother them, she was too busy trying to calm down and and be treated by the medical NEs who had come to keep her comfortable and out of the way.

Hobbs, being a competent engineer, got this worked quite swiftly and within an our or so the ship’s heating was back on and slowly warming.

GM Wombat

=^=Understood Lieutenant. Keep us up to date on how the repairs are going. The sooner we can get this cleared up, the sooner we can get everyone nice and healthy again. =^=

Cmdr. Foley - XO (crosspost)

=^= Stadi to Hobbes, it looks like the ship’s starting to stabilize the temperature. I’ve been running diagnostics in Engineering and don’t see any other issues. Or at least, not any other systems off line. Good work, and don’t forget to inform the Bridge. You did the work, you get to tell them they can take off the parkas. =^=
