As Rodier finished up the last of the balloons, Javal went toward the kitchen to retrieve Jordy’s cake from the galley.

“Is everything in set condition for the party?” he asked one of the cooks, who seemed to be placing the final touches of icing on the cake.

“Yes, sir! What do ya think?” the woman said, excitedly. “I made it up precisely to your exacting specifications,” she said with a playful smirk.

Javal peered over the rather large confection and noted, with a raised eyebrow, the amount of detail that she had poured into making the Challenger appear to “pop” out of the cake at its inevitable consumer.

“Oh! And one other thing!” the chef remarked.

Carefully lurching herself over the cake, she decoratively pierced the layers of chocolate with 19 small candles around its border.

“Ah yes, I believe there is a tradition in some human societies where the number of candles employed indicates approximate age,” Javal noted with curiosity.

“You mean a birthday, Doc? Jordy’s gonna have his 19th today, so 19 candles for 19 birthdays. Simple!” She leaned over and whispered into the Vulcan’s ear, “Well, unless you’re a girl, that is” she said with a chuckle.

Javal reacted by staring at her quizzically, trying to puzzle out what she had meant by that. Human traditions seem to be quite multifaceted…much like the layers of their confections they desire to consume in high quantities, he thought to himself.

In any case, with the cake all sorted out, Javal returned to his party-planning compatriot.

“All of our preparations are now set for the arrival of Mr. Kleine for his party. Whenever you are ready, Mr. Rodier, we can call him to report to the Mess Hall, perhaps for the purpose of a routine patrol?” Javal asked, wondering what plans the Chief of Security had in store to surprise the cadet with.

“I believe so, yes,” Henry replied as a few more guests streamed into the room, the balloons beginning to bounce about. =^= Rodier to Kleine, report to the Mess Hall with all haste. =^= As he waited for the young Cadet to arrive, he glanced at the small box before him. He had had to be careful to avoid any appearance of favoritism here, but had nonetheless been happy to contribute to the contents of the box.

Ripping his eyes off the box and nearby cake, the Chief smiled at Javal and motioned for the people around them to crouch down slightly, the appointed NE dimming the lights as they awaited the guest of honor.

Jordy is doing a phaser training in the holodeck he hears the comm message and says. ‘End program.’ Jordy tapps on his commbadge. =^= Im on my way sir.=^= Jordy heads to the mess hall.

When arriving at the mess hall he enters it.

As Jordy entered the mess hall, he found it both eerily dark and quiet - like something was up.

As Jordy’s suspicions likely grew of the situation, the lights suddenly flickered on to reveal a gaggle of people huddled around a rather large chocolate cake, jubilantly addressing their “victim.”

“Happy birthday, Jordy!!” was the enthusiastic cry they gave in unison (all except Javal, who still gave the customary expression, but with decidedly less gusto).

Miya joined in the shout, clapping in the Bajoran fashion with back of one hand against the palm of the other. She was aware of Javal’s more muted cry of welcome but knew that, for him, it was the Vulcan equivalent of jubilance. Quite a few NCs and NEs from Sickbay had joined the crowd of people at the birthday party, much to the chagrin of the staff who had to remain on duty. Eyeing the spectacular cake, Miya thought there might even be enough left after the party for the whole crew of the Challenger to enjoy! Hopefully those on duty now would be able to grab a slice later.

(OOC: just getting Miya into the crowd! More interaction to follow once Jordy reacts to the surprise. :D )

Henry slammed his palms together in a quite excessively loud initial clap, his excitement overwhelming him as he awaited the Cadet’s reaction with a huge smile on his face.

Jordy sees the lights go on and the people comming from their hiding spots and he smiles saying. ‘Thanks everyone.’

After some happy birthdays and pats on the back, Henry said, “well, the cake won’t wait forever!” And took a sizable stab at the center of the delectable dessert. The first piece was, of course, served to Jordy, and more was offered to anyone else within the Chief’s line of sight.
