(OOC: no worries, Adrien - thank you! And Gavin, thank you too … have fun reacting to Miya’s GM-approved injuries when Henry arrives in sickbay, lol!)

Miya declined the offer to lie down - if she did, she thought she’d just fall asleep - and squinted at the tricorder instead. “Ouch,” she muttered, taking in the readings. Chekhov’s wild swing had left her with a non-displaced fracture of the left zygomatic bone - it wouldn’t require surgery but she’d need treatment later, once the immediate challenge of dealing with the ensigns had ended. That also explained the double vision in her left eye and the feeling of something leaking from her nose - she raised her hand towards her face, but Nurse Cadell gave a sympathetic grimace and handed her a sterile cloth before she could make contact.

The Bajoran dabbed gingerly at her nostrils. Bright blood bloomed on the cloth when she took it away and she sighed. “Prophets … what a mess!” She would have said more, but it hurt too much.

Nurse Cadell was watching her anxiously. “I’m afraid you’re going to have a nasty black eye unless you get some treatment quickly. Maybe you should lie down, Doctor. You don’t look very well.”

Miya was about to respond when the loud beeping of an emergency alarm attracted everyone’s attention. Ensign MacGuffin’s medical stats were continuing to creep lower, leading the biobed to throw out an alert. Ignoring the headache pounding at her temples, Miya staggered to his bed, syncing the tricorder to his stats and reading the results. “Kosst!” she cursed underneath her breath, trying to order her thoughts. If it was grapok sauce causing this illness, she needed to get a sample of the foodstuff to see what contaminants were involved. In the meantime, she’d continue to treat the symptoms. If this was a form of food poisoning, what other approaches could she take?

It hurt to speak, so she took a short break every few words to let her jaw return to a less painful position. “Uh - let’s start both patients on … intravenous fluids. Add sedatives and antipyretics to the fluids … so they’re kept calm. And keep a close eye on them .... I don’t like the direction their charts are going.” Miya specified the drugs to be used then took a couple of steps away from the biobeds, leaving her staff to continue with their tasks. Her face hurt whenever she spoke, but she couldn’t not communicate. She tapped her commbadge, unaware that Lieutenant Rodier was already on his way to Sickbay.

=^= Ven to Rodier. I need to … find the source of grapok … sauce which may be causing this … illness. Could you authorise a … search? Quarters of Ensigns MacGuffin and … Chekhov, please. =^=

After this, you can ask Stadi in Engineering to check grapok sauce in the replicators. But one thing at a time, Miya. One thing at a time, she thought as she awaited a reply.

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

Henry couldn’t help but smile at Miya’s timing, as he walked into Sickbay no more than fifteen seconds after receiving her message. “Apologies for the late response, Lieutenant. But I prefer a face to…” he paused as he approached the CMO, noting her bloody nose and mild disorientation. “Jesus, Ven, are you okay?” He instinctively scanned the room, seeing the confined and sedated officers.

She would have smiled in return, but it hurt too much. “Yes … I’m fine. Well, I will be.” She noticed his gaze pass over the two ensigns and sighed. “It was an … accident. I’ll get this … seen to in a minute.” Miya took a step towards Rodier, reaching out one hand to indicate the ensigns. “Can you search their … quarters for grapok … sauce? Please? It’s important!”

Behind her, Nurse Cadell had a dermal regenerator in one hand. She was trying to make eye contact with the lieutenant and jerking her head towards the empty biobed, clearly hoping he would be able to persuade the obstinate CMO to get treated.

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

Henry noticed the Nurse’s motion with some anxiety. It was ironically the CMO who would normally be the one to persuade someone to receive treatment, but he was no stranger to getting through obstinance.

As the lieutenant stepped toward Rodier, he moved toward her, lightly grasping her reaching hand. “Of course, I’ll see so it myself.” He began to guide her in the direction of the biobed. “But not until you’re seen to.”

“No - wait …” she began, but Rodier’s grip - though gentle - was insistent. And her face did hurt. A lot. As she turned, she spotted Nurse Cadell’s implacable expression. Miya gave in and stumbled towards the biobed, sinking onto its padded surface with a pained sigh. “Thanks ....” she whispered to Rodier and Cadell, closing her eyes and letting her colleague take over.

Minutes later, the dermal regenerator had done its work and Miya’s face was looking better; a hypospray of analgesic had helped to deal with the pain of the hairline fracture of her cheekbone until an osteogenic stimulator could be used to complete the healing process. The first cadet allowed back into Sickbay would win the ‘prize’ of treating their chief. Miya would have done it herself, except for the aphorism that was drilled into all members of the medical profession: “The doctor who treats themself has only a fool for a patient!”

She pushed herself into a sitting position, waiting for the slight whirling sensation in her head to subside. “Thank you,” she repeated to Nurse Cadell, managing a more normal smile this time, then glanced at the security chief. “And thank you, too.” Her cheeks flushed slightly as she realised how she must have looked when he arrived. Attempting to cover her embarrassment, she levered herself onto her feet, though she stayed close to the biobed for support.

“So - grapok sauce? Can you search for it, please? I need to test some to see if it’s the source of this … illness.” Miya indicated the third ensign who had accompanied MacGuffin and Chekhov, NE Schmilblick, adding quietly for Rodier’s ears, “Maybe that ensign might be able to help you find it?”

(OOC: Schmilblick hasn’t been mentioned since the start of the sim, so I’m guessing they’re still in Sickbay?)

[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]

Henry’s expression remained cool, regardless of any detection of Miya’s blush. “Of course. I’m not sure if we’ll find it in their quarters, but I have an idea of where to look.” He turned to NE Schmilblick. “Ensign, you’re with me. We’ll report back as soon as we find something.” With that, he turned and began to walk out, only to pause briefly and half-turn. “Nurse, if the Lieutenant tries anything she shouldn’t, tell me directly. That’s an order.” He gave an almost imperceptible wink in Miya’s direction, then continued through the door, Schmilblick in toe.
