The sound of a soft alarm filled Cadet Erik Jethro Avant’s quarters as he laid face first on his bed. He jolted awake, a half conscious look on his face. “ghuy’!” Jethro swore as he looked over at his clock. He was incredible late for his medical check-in with the Chief Medical Officer. Jethro must have dozed off after settling into his quarters and been sleeping through his alarm for the last few minutes.

Good way to make a first impression with a doctor, be late to medical appointment.

Quickly, he hoped off his bed and threw on his uniform jacket back over his undershirt and dashed for the turbo lift. “Main Sickbay,” he told the computer and whirled to action.

A few minutes later he was fast walking into sickbay. “Lieutenant, so sorry I am late. Cadet Avant reporting for medical check-in.” He stood at a stiff attention, his rising quickly to catch his breath.

Miya noted his breathlessness and his posture, rigid with tension, sure signs of a cadet who knew he’d messed up. Prophets, it wasn’t so long since that was me!
Fortunately, she wasn’t his department head so she didn’t have to take him to task in any way. What she could do, though, was provide a bit of advice that would hopefully help him avoid such problems in the future.

She took care to keep her voice neutral. “Thank you, Cadet. You’ve been to Starfleet Academy,” she had reviewed his notes beforehand, knowing his appointment was due, “so you know the importance of good timekeeping. That’s essential on a starship, so I’ll pass on some advice I received shortly after joining the Academy … if you’re not 15 minutes early in Starfleet, you’re five minutes late.” She dropped the stern facade and treated him to her usual warm smile. “Bear that in mind and it’ll stand you in good stead aboard the Challenger. Now let’s get your check-in finished so you can go on to your next appointment - whenever that may be,” Miya added with the ghost of a wink.

The Bajoran led the way to one of the biobeds. “Lie down there, please, and relax. This shouldn’t take too long.”

(OOC: I’ve seen the list of previous injuries in Jethro’s bio - wow! Miya will definitely pick up on this when the scan results come back. Is there anything more recent that the scan may show? Any illnesses, allergies … anything that may have made him sleep in, perhaps? Just let me know in an OOC when you reply and I’ll work it into my response. :D )
