=/\= Bridge to Sickbay. Get a team to Engineering and prepare for incoming casualties. =/\=
- Jacobs, CO (crosspost)
Javal glanced up at the sound of the intercom as he finished his task. A medical emergency in Engineering as well? Could there be a connection? he wondered to himself. Given his state of ignorance of the situation in Sickbay, this thought was made in complete conjecture, but it was worth considering nonetheless.
Prophets! What now? Miya rolled her eyes - which she would not have done had the new Captain been nearby, instead of safely on the Bridge - and tapped her commbadge with her free hand, trying to sound coolly professional. =/\= Understood, Captain. Sickbay out. =/\= There was no point asking for more information, she felt; it would be better to get first-hand knowledge of the situation in Engineering and that meant sending people down there as quickly as possible.
Still encouraging the ailing Ensign Chekhov towards the nearest chair, she called over her shoulder, “Cadet Javal! Take a medpack and a medical tricorder and get down to Engineering. Look for Lieutenant Stadi, the chief engineer - find out what’s going on, triage injuries and beam anyone who’s seriously hurt directly to Sickbay. Make sure to keep me informed about what’s happening in Engineering - understood?”
“Understood, Doctor,” was Javal’s reply as he made his way quickly over to the CMO’s side with the hypospray in hand.
Not waiting for his response, she glanced at two nearby Ensigns. “NE Lister, NE Syme, grab medkits and accompany Cadet Javal, please.” They were two of the more experienced Ensigns and could be relied on to support the Vulcan cadet. Miya felt confident Javal would perform well, whatever was going on in Engineering. She’d been impressed so far by his careful, precise manner; now it was time to see how he coped in more pressurised situations. There was no time to ponder that, though. Miya raised her voice. “Everyone else, prepare for incoming casualties. Usual procedures apply - you know the drills, we’ve practised them often enough!”
As for the two Ensigns with possible allergic reactions, MacGuffin and Chekhov, Miya felt she didn’t have enough information yet to pass up the chain of command. She wanted more diagnostic details - hopefully including some knowledge of what had made them both so ill - before she could identify potential solutions and pass them on. “Almost there, Ensign!” she puffed, supporting Chekhov towards the chair. Hopefully she could scan him with a medical tricorder once he was sitting down.
[Lieutenant JG Ven Miya, CMO]
In the few seconds that he still had at Miya’s side, he motioned to her to take the hypospray from his hand. “Antipyretic calibrated with previous dose administered plus 5cc’s asinolyathin,” he said.
Miya gave the cadet a quick nod. “Perfect. Thank you!” She grabbed the hypospray with her free hand, keeping it hidden from Chekhov as she took the final couple of steps to reach the chair, depositing the ensign onto it with a sigh of relief. Only then did she prepare to administer the shot.
Leaving the current emergency to the Chief, Javal spun around to meet the gaze of the two medical Ensigns who had just been thrusted into his charge, medkits in hand. NE Syme, already on top of the emergency response procedure, gave the Vulcan a little smirk. “Here, you’ll be needing this, Cadet,” and hoisted another medpack into his hands along with a medical tricorder.
“Much obliged,” Javal replied, affixing the tricorder to his utility belt and taking the medpack in hand.
“Now you heard the CMO,” he began again, returning his gaze onto the two Ensigns. “There has been a disturbance in Main Engineering requiring an emergency medical response. We will link up with Chief Engineer Stadi and assess the situation before initiating triage,” he said in a calm, confident manner. “Any questions?”
While the Ensigns gave no reply, Javal could tell the both of them were well prepared to meet the challenge ahead of them.
“Very good, let us proceed,” he said with a nod, before leading the way out of Sickbay at a rapid pace, the two NEs trailing closely behind.
[Cadet Javal - doctor]
As Javal left with the two ensigns in tow, the remaining personnel in sickbay moved into a higher gear, preparing for potential casualties from Engineering and monitoring both Chekhov and MacGuffin. Miya was kept busy co-ordinating sickbay’s response to the emergency, which at least meant she had little time to focus on her ever-present fears about making a mistake or letting someone down.
Miya’s combadge chirped with a new message from Javal.
=^= “Cadet Javal to Dr. Ven. The medical team has successfully reached Main Engineering and had made contact with Chief Engineer Stadi. A large melee had erupted within the bounds of Main Engineering among Lt. Stadi’s crew, the cause of which is currently unknown. The affected crewmen were transported to an auxiliary cargobay by Engineering Cadet Hobbes, and I have received orders from Commander Foley to examine those individuals. I have attached NE Lister to see to the wounded in Main Engineering and to coordinate relief efforts with Sickbay while I head down to the cargo bay with NE Syme and Security Cadet Kleine.” =^=
[Cadet Javal - doctor]
The cadet’s precise speech reminded her of Lieutenant T’Saie, bringing a smile to her lips as she remembered her first CMO. Prophets - Aaron would say I should try to act like her, then eventually I’ll be as calm as she was! Miya took a deep breath, then tapped her commbadge to respond.
=^= Thank you for the update, Cadet. Remember you can beam anyone with serious injuries directly to Sickbay. If you need more medical staff once you get to the cargo bay, let me know. In the meantime, I’ll send another cadet to Main Engineering to help Lister. Ven out. =^=
She directed NC Fleming to take a medical tricorder and medpack to back up NE Lister, then returned to NE Chekhov to monitor his symptoms. Hopefully the Challenger’s medical systems would give her some hint as to the cause of the illness apparently affecting him and NE MacGuffin .....
