NE MacGuffin didn’t feel so well. I mean he didn’t feel well at all.

And by that I mean when MacGuffin was finally brought into the ER, his fever had spiked, he was having hallucinations, and it took two of his NE friends to carry him in. NE Chekhov and NE Schmilblick had the poor man slung across his shoulders. “Help! He is burning up!,” Schmilblick said, her low voice gravelly, “I don’t know what he ate but it can’t be good!”

Miya was discussing medical protocols with a couple of NCs when there was a commotion at the entrance to sickbay. She turned to see a patient being brought in, draped across the shoulders of two ensigns, and immediately hurried towards them, beckoning the NCs to accompany her. Every situation was a teachable moment, after all, and as Chief Medical Officer of the starship Challenger (which was still a terrifying thought!) she had to support her cadets in their training. Even if she felt like a complete imposter at times, although - thank the Prophets - she was getting better at overcoming that feeling.

“Put him on that biobed, please,” she instructed the ensigns. “What’s his name?” Once she knew the patient’s name, she could use her PADD to call up his baseline diagnostics and compare them to his current condition via the biobed’s readouts. “Can you tell me when he started to feel ill?” she added as she approached the biobed, glancing at each of the NEs in turn to encourage them to speak.

“MacGuffin, Sean MacGuffin,” NE Chekhov, a security ensign, said as he and the other ensign laid him down on the biobed. “This morning, Ma’am. We found him in his bunk when he didn’t report for duty.”

Stepping back he looked around nervously, “Do you think it was the Grapok sauce from last night?”

“Grapok sauce?” Miya suppressed a shudder. She enjoyed spicy food - her parents had a recipe for hasperat which was eye-wateringly strong - but she’d never understood the need to spread grapok sauce liberally on pieces of animal lung. “Has he eaten it before?” she asked, tapping the ensign’s name into her PADD and fixing her gaze on the biobed’s readouts, ready to interpret them when they appeared. His symptoms didn’t seem to match those of an allergic reaction, though ....

She frowned, watching him through narrowed eyes. Wait to see what the readouts say, Miya, she reminded herself silently.

Chekhov shrugged before reaching up to wipe some sweat off of his own brow, “Well it was a bet or something like that… I don’t know ma’am.”

The readouts on MacGuffin showed that he had a fever, racing heart, and was experiencing muscle spasms as he writhed on the table.
