“Yes, Ma’am.” Tom replied with a mild voice and put those papers back in the bag. He felt glad to spent the past years in the Academy. Just as one of the staff members told him before he boarded the ship. We, all cadets were already well trained enough to hit the fleet. The curriculum covered everything in general from all departments. Those’re overwhelming but that’s the point. Each one of us had to have a shared understanding, a big picture of this organization. And the training continues after we’re assigned on ships.

As the turbo stopped, they stepped out.

Cadet Little

OOC: As we go along don’t forget to trim out some of the older threads, to keep everyone from having to scroll as far. There are a lot of rules of thumb on how much to cut out. My usual rule of thumb is to go back as far as you think is appropriate for the current conversation/info you don’t really need anymore. So in this case I snipped the section where we were repairing the machine. Really it just takes some practice and you’ll get the hang of it!

“Excellent,” Alison said clapping her hands together. It wasn’t far to the doors into the crew lounge, and a only a couple of steps towards the nearest replicator.

“Turkey sandwich, side of fruit salad, glass of ice water,” she said towards the replicator before turning back to Tom. “Would you like anything?”

(OOC: Alright. I’ll replace those words with a snip tag. Speaking of the sandwich, does she preferred to be called sir or ma’am? I saw most crews are using sir regardless, of the series and the search results.)

“Yes…A fish tacos and tomato juice.” In a blink of an eye, two cylinder-shaped white particles rotated in a clockwise motion appeared and formed the meal. Although Tom was familiar with this already, he was still amazed by this technology that most people took for granted.

When choosing a menu, he tried to follow the booklet from the fleet recommended nutritional intake. It’s his turn to take some vitamins, calcium, and proteins. They grabbed their food and picked a table. He waited for her to take the bite or a sip first, at least showing respect to the Cheif.

Alison decided it wasn’t her place to question the Cadet’s choice, but she was definitely not a fan of tomato juice. Taking her own food, she lead the way to a table. Picking up a fork, she stabbed a strawberry and took a bite.

“So tell me, what are you looking forward to the most here on the Challenger?”

“I look forward to learning the ship.” Tom continued. “I read the manual about the Challenger and screened other ships before got here. It seems to me that most federation’s ships are in the same structure. This would be a great opportunity before hitting the next assignment.”

He took a bite and a sip after saying those words. Replicated huh? These could be the best tacos and tomato juice I’ve had so far!

“May I ask you, Ma’am, why science officer?” He swallowed the food and asked. He tried not to be rude, but he couldn’t recall many female scientists in his memory. This occupation had generationally excluded women and honestly, it’s still a tough job for them. Not only they’re biologically different, but living in the space was pushing them even harder.

“Well, I wanted to see the stars,” Alison looking out the window with a smile. “Had a science teacher who encouraged me, and earned myself a scholarship to study biology, and ended up specializing in exobiology. And it’s not just about the stars, it’s about always asking questions, and the desire to try and find an answer.

“So, you look forward to just learning about the ship? Nothing in particular about the experience? There is more to serving in Star Fleet then just the ships you know.”
