OOC: Eeep! So sorry I missed this!
IC:
“Enter!” came through the door panel, and the doors slid open with a hiss onto a large seating area, mostly occupied by a large L-shaped sectional sofa. The couch was upholstered in light blue, sitting on lighter blue carpeting, against a dark blue wall. Over the sofa hung a painting of a human couple - a tuxedo clad man and a barefoot woman in a red evening gown - dancing on a wet beach, while a maid and a butler stood nearby holding umbrellas and clutching their headgear against the wind. A small desk was off to the right, tucked into a corner, making it clear it was not of importance in this room. In the wall behind the desk was a replicator.
Standing up from the sofa was the counselor, a human woman of average height in a standard blue-shouldered Starfleet uniform. Her long black hair was piled into a bun atop her head, held in place by a wooden skewer, which she checked as she crossed the room to the entering cadet.
“Hello,” she smiled brightly, extending her hand. “You must be Zachary. Please, have a seat.” She gestured to the sofa as she approached the desk area. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton, but I prefer Vanessa during sessions,” she continued. “Would you like something to drink? I love a good hot chocolate.”
OOC: Hello K! I’m so sorry I missed this! I was away for a few days and it slipped through when I was reviewing the ship when I came back. The counselor thread is our opportunity to delve into your character’s backstory, motivations, desires, etc, and hopefully come up with some things to add to your character bio. I look forward to writing with you, and learning more about Zachary!

For some reason he hadn’t expected such a spacious room to be what was waiting for him beyond the door, and it took him a few seconds longer than he would have liked to blink and take the unexpected space and furnishings in. Generally he had assumed most things would be utilitarian in nature aboard a starship but the decorative nature of this area proved him at least partially wrong. His eyes dragged over the large painting on the wall above the sofa before he turned and properly greeted the Lt. Commander.
“Thank you, and I am. Zachary, I mean.” He eased onto the couch appreciably as he finished answering. “I’m fine for now, thank you for the offer. My nerves are still up a bit too much to take anything at the moment. ‘Fraid it wouldn’t settle right.”

OOC: Hello, and it’s nice to meet you! It’s totally understandable it slipped past while you were gone, and I’ve been a little busier than I had hoped so I haven’t been waiting on it, so it all works out, haha. I’m also looking forward to working on him some more and seeing where he goes!
“One hot chocolate,” Vanessa requested, then returned to the sofa, sitting on the opposite ‘leg’ from Zachary. “Let me know if you change your mind,” she smiled. She sipped the drink and closed her eyes, sighing, then cradled the drink in her palms, enjoying the heat suffusing them.
“This is a very informal session,” she began, “mostly for me to get to know you. This isn’t a test of any kind - you wouldn’t be here if Starfleet didn’t think you were ready. Of course, I’ve read your file, I’m familiar with your distinctions and Academy record, but I’m more interested in the you that’s not in there.” She leaned back against the sofa. “So, tell me a little about yourself. What do you like to do off duty?”
OOC: Apologies again for the delay on this. My recent post on my return from LOA explains.
