The doors to sickbay once more opened and admitted a woman in medical colours, her dark hair a messy sort of half bun pile on top of her head and held together with what looked like a PaDD stylus. She was in a sort of semi dressed state also, with one boot still in her hand and her lab coat only half covering her. Casting a glance around the woman proceeded to fix her lab coat and compose herself, straightening her back and lifting her chin in the manner of someone who was supposed to be in some sort of authority and had been caught on the back foot.

“Ahem…excuse me.” She said still holding the boot. She glanced at Rodier, having heard the last part of his commentary. “Perhaps that information would be prudent, don’t you agree?”

(OOC: just bringing this up to the moment with the current sim - apologies if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes by doing this!)

Two and a bit days had passed quickly, with all the preparations necessary to get Sickbay, its staff and nearby facilities ready for the influx of colonists. Miya couldn’t suppress an involuntary shiver as the klaxons for yellow alert blared throughout the ship and the captain’s comm message sounded a fraction of a second later:

=/\= Bridge to All Staff. We are approaching the colony. Take your places to begin the evacuation. =/\= (Cross-post)

The Bajoran cadet glanced around, hoping she had properly prepared everything she’d been asked to do. “Well, here we go!” she murmured. “Hopefully there’s no tribbles involved in this emergency ......” The critters had been cute, but not exactly what Miya had trained for at Starfleet Academy. Prophets, whatever happens, let me do my best, she thought. Bajor seemed so very far away at times like these.

(OOC: lovely GM - are there any lingering challenges or problems with the preparations Sickbay, in particular, has been making for the colonists? Anything our characters would be aware of or may be concerned about?)

[Cadet Ven Miya - doctor]
Aaron was walking to Sickbay, waked up by the last transmission. The yellow alert was blaring for two days and began to get on his nerves. He was a bit tired, both because of the 2-days stress and because he tried to relieve the stress by playing saxophone all night.
The one thing that is boring in space is the travel delay between one location to another, especially when it comes to an emergency.

As the Sickbay’s hatch opened, Aaron saw Miya wandering in the room, glancing around. She looked a bit worried. Who isn’t?, he thought. I could barely sleep those last days.

“Hey there! How is it going ?”, he said, approaching Miya with a smile. “No one had shown yet?”

Cadet Aaron Williams

Relieved to see her friend, Miya gave him a welcoming grin. “No colonists - yet. No new transmissions from the Bridge or transporter room, either, beyond that last one from the Captain. We’re just …” she glanced around the busy sickbay, then shrugged, “waiting to see what’s going to happen. Hopefully everything’s ready - if not, I dare say we’ll find out soon enough!”

Something in Aaron’s expression made her frown. “If you don’t mind me saying, you’re looking tired. D’you need a coffee?” She knew how much he enjoyed the beverage.

(OOC: I’m presuming there are more medical cadets on board than just us, as well as Sickbay staff, hence the mention of a busy sickbay!)

OOC: Flattering the GM will get you everywhere, so keep it up. :P
As for any remaining challenges, I think you lovely folks are as prepared as you can get without the colonists coming aboard. Which will be happening imminently.

GM Madness
At the word coffee, Aaron’s eyes opened a bit more. Thinking of the hot drink makes him almost fully waked up. “That’s a wonderful idea”, he said with a smile. I totally forget to take one this morning. Maybe because of the stress. Looking around the Sickbay, he could feel a tensed atmosphere, with cadet and doctor walking around and checking for any problems. “Let’s hope the colonists are fine. I mean… better than what we imagine.”

Before walking to the replicator, he asked: “By the way, do you want anything in particular ?”

(OOC : Tell the GM he has nice hairs!)

Cadet Aaron Williams

Miya considered his question briefly, then came to a quick decision. “I’ll have a raktajino, please! I have the feeling we’ll need to be alert and ready for anything, this shift.” The lack of solid information about the colonists’ medical situation still concerned the Bajoran - and, she was sure, her colleagues - but she thought they were prepared for almost any eventuality.

Well, hopefully they were.

“Anyone else want some refreshments?” she asked nearby Sickbay staff. “Aaron’s doing a replicator run. I’ll come and help you if there are any more orders, Aaron!” she added with a grin. She’d often thought it would be handy to have extra limbs, like the Edosians. Especially when it came to doing surgery … or bringing multiple cups from the replicator.

OOC: Sure, get out the hot beverages before mayhem begins…

To answer the question about crew rostering, the Discovery-class ships are fairly small (think Voyager sized, but with a full crew given the lack of Delta Quadrant worm holing). There would definitely be more crew in Sickbay than just the three of you (two cadets and the CMO). In STF, we sometimes use these nameless crew members to advance a sim or to just have some fun; we usually call them Nameless Ensigns (“NEs”), although you’ll see some Nameless Cadets (“NCs”) running about… oh, and they usually have names, but not normal ones. :P
