Connor stood nervously outside the door to the Counselor’s office. He felt that all in all his mental health was fairly good, and he has had no prior issues regarding it during his time at Starfleet, but the Counselor could deem him unfit for service at any time, and would surely know more about him than any other member of the crew, which was not exactly a reassuring thought. Nevertheless it is important that this goes well the cadet thought as he prepared himself.

Taking one final deep breath, Connor knocked on the door and patiently waited on a response from within. This is going to be easy, like ripping off a band-aid he tried to reassure himself. Then you get to go study the ship and really get to work.

“Enter!” came through the door panel. The doors parted with a hiss onto a seating area filled by a blue L-shaped sectional sofa. Behind the couch, on a darker blue wall, hung a painting of a tuxedo-clad man dancing with a barefoot woman in an evening gown on a wet beach, while a butler and lady’s maid held umbrellas nearby. A small desk sat to the right, and a dark haired human woman was standing from it.

“You must be Connor,” she smiled to him as she crossed the room, hand extended. “I’m the ship’s counselor, Lieutenant Commander Lofton, but you can call me Vanessa in sessions.” She held her hand out to the sofa. “Please, have a seat! Get comfortable. This is a very informal session.”

She turned and walked back beside the desk. “I always like a hot chocolate during sessions,” she told him. “Would you like anything to drink?”

OOC: Hi Dillon! Welcome to your counselor thread, where we’ll delve a little into your character’s backstory, talk about their motivations and desires a little bit, and hopefully come up with a few items to add to your character bio. I can’t wait to learn more about Connor!

The cadet entered the room and smiled at the counselor. “Very nice to meet you mam.” He walked over and sat down at the couch as Vanessa had requested, attempting to make himself comfortable, though found it difficult. He observed his surroundings and found the office to be tastefully decorated. Connor normally found the décor meant to calm patients tacky and utilitarian.

Connor raised his eyebrow at the hot chocolate remark. She appears far more relaxed than I would expect her to be. He thought. The engineer briefly pondered as to whether her question was a test, and what the correct answer would be before deciding that it was most likely asked in good faith. “An oolong tea would be nice if that’s alright?” Connor asked politely. The beverage was a favorite of his and usually served to calm his nerves and center his mind.

She nodded, turning to the food slot. “One oolong tea and one hot chocolate,” she ordered, then returned after the whir of the materialization finished, handing Connor his mug while she cradled hers in two hands as she sat.

“Like I said, this is a very informal session,” she repeated. “So that I can get to know you and some ways we can help you improve during your final months in the Academy, and be the best officer we can help you be. So to that end… tell me a little about yourself. What do you like to do for fun?”
