Emmy studied the surface of the ruins by her feet intently for several seconds before tilting her head up toward Holmman and staring off over his shoulder. “This does not feel like a mission for cadets, Commander. Document the findings and prepare to return to the Challenger.” Her voice was firm as she decisively stowed her tricorder at her waist.

Cadet Ko moved about the solar station, deciding the best way to go about clearing debris from the old panels. It seemed like a daunting task, and she silently agreed with the commander that it will take a larger team to truly uncover their mystery. However, she could not help but feel dejected to hear the captain say this mission was beyond the scope of the cadets. Cadet Ko stepped forward, and only the twitching of her tail gave away how nervous she really felt. “Captain, may I speak freely?”

Emmy stared at the cadet for several seconds before replying with a simple, curt, “speak.”

Cadet Ko held herself unnaturally still, almost buckling under the stern gaze of the captain. “I only ask you don’t write us cadets off yet. We’ve studied long and hard at the academy and I feel I speak for the others when I say we are prepared for any challenge. On this away team or any future teams.” She added, understanding that the captain had final say and that this mission may take multiple away teams to solve. But Cadet Ko couldn’t help but speak up, because wasn’t this posting their chance to prove themselves before graduation? To prove themselves capable and knowledgeable future officers?

Emmy looked confused as she considered the cadet’s words, glancing around to see if anyone had a PaDD out where there might be this “writing” to which Ko was referring. Finally, her knowledge of colloquial speech caught up and she responded, her tone slightly softer than normal, to the cadet. “I understand your concern, Cadet, and we will thoroughly document this for Starfleet, but we must follow Starfleet orders and they did not include investigating these ruins in the limited time we have to complete our mission.” With that, she headed to the transport location…

While Ko and Davis spoke, Eric began to look around the site to gather in the rest of the team. “Cadet Wisniewski,” the XO called out loudly. “Report back here with your findings.” Nothing like a good bellow rather than using a communicator.. (OOC: I think that’s it for our away team who are still on the ship…)

Hearing the XO bellow his name, Stan picked up his sample case and briskly walked closer to the Commander. “Sir, both my equipment here and Lt. Barr’s analysis on the Challenger led to similar conclusions: the ruins and the technology that we’ve found down appear to be separated by centuries…and both from different timeframes than what we would be expecting for the Valakians or the Menk.”

Cadet Wisniewski, Scientist

“That’s good work, both of you,” Eric said, his intrigued by the implications. “We’ll have to give a full initial report for Starfleet. Hopefully, Challenger will get orders to do the more thorough excavation as part of your Academy training and we can start to figure out what is going on here. But we’ll have to see…”

Eric looked around to make sure nothing was amiss. “Is everyone ready for transport back to Challenger?”

(OOC: Alas, a 3-4 month Academy sim is meant to just give everyone a small ‘taste’ of what the larger sims are like in the main fleet. For those that aren’t graduating yet, we’ll find out soon if we’ll be getting a second chapter on this moon.)
