John Gordon limped around his office in annoyance. He had failed to notice that the warp engines, the matter/antimatter reaction assembly was due for maintenance back while they were at starbase and was forgotten. He wasn’t happy about this error, and it looked badly on him. At the same time, he did have a ship full of cadets which could do the work, and provide them with loads of practical experience. The question was, who to place in charge? He grabbed some tea from the replicator and sat down at his desk to review the personnel files on his cadets. Who had some experience in Warp theory.

After reviewing a bunch of files he came across Cadet Griffth’s file. His noted that Warp Theory was a favorite subject of his at the academy. He would be perfect to lead the maintenance team. Gordon smiled, he was hopeful the experience would be invaluable to the cadet. He tapped his combadge.

Gordon was waiting in his office for the cadet to arrive.

“Ah, come in Cadet. I have an assignment for you,” he explained as the door closed. “But first, can you tell me what kind of warp core the Challenger has?” He asked the young cadet as he leaned back in his chair behind his desk.

Gordon looked at the cadet. “Well we can go faster than warp 8, but that isn’t what I asked. What kind of warp core do we have on this ship?” he asked calmly.

this is equipped with dual M/ARA warp cores each feeding two nacelles, one located on decks 4 through 6 and one on decks 9 through 11.

Gordon smiled. “Very good. What I want you to do is to lead the engineering team in performing some routine maintenance on the warp core matter/antimatter chamber. Do you think you are up for the challenge?” he asked curious.

Gordon smiled. “I’m glad you think so. Why don’t you start with the reactant injectors. Check to make sure that they are still operating at 98% thermal insolation. Cadet Jones outside will help you. I’ll be here in case you need help.”

OCC: This is for you to role play. I’ll play Cadet Jones for you, but I want you to take the initiative.

Griffth Walk out to see him. “Hey Ready to work Cadet?”

Cadet Jones was a young third year cadet on his first training cruise. “I am, I guess the chief put you in charge?” he asked, he seemed to be annoyed at the fact that he wasn’t placed in charge.

Jones nodded. “Well, you are in charge, where should we start?” He turned and looked at the warp core.
