I walk into the chief of engineer’s office. I take a deep breath and sit down.

OOC: Welcome to the Challenger and STF! I’m Griffin, I play the Engineering Department Head Dael Stadi and will be working to help you feel comfortable and get a feel for the site and how we roleplay. Right now I’m using Out of Character (OOC) to talk to you directly. Later I will use In Character (IC) to show that it’s my character speaking on the ship, roleplaying with yours. Just a few notes, we use third person here on STF, think like you’re writing a Star Trek novel but you’re writing it with everyone on the site filling in their sections. Cool, right? Next thing is just to remember to sign off your posts, that way people don’t get confused when reading a long string of posts who said what. But don’t worry, just follow my lead and you’ll become a seasoned hand in no time!

IC:

Dael looked up from his desk as the door swished open. His office looked a rather plain and mostly utilitarian room. He sat at a work desk was in the back of the room, in front of which sat two chairs for guests. On the wall behind him a screen similar to one that could be found in Main Engineering that showed the profile of the Challenger, keeping up to date on the ship’s status. Hung on the right wall were a few toolkits above a side table with some parts in the process of being repaired. On the left hung a spare uniform and another engineering console taking up most of the space . The space seemed focused on the task of keeping the Challenger running, and not one that he seemed to spend most of his time The only non-Engineering item that could be seen was a small orb on the desk, that seemed to cave in on itself but also expand out depending on how you looked at it, inside a shifting of colors made abstract patterns.

Dael observed the cadet as he sat down and not recognizing the surface thought patterns, put away the capacitor he had been adjusting. The Betazoid turned his full attention to the new cadet and jogged his memory. That’s right, the Commander did say I had another team member coming in soon. Good, the more working hands in my team, the better. He did an attempt at a warm smile to put the new cadet at ease as he tried to remember the name the XO had told him.

“Cadet…Colvin right? Pleasure to meet you, I’m Lt. Stadi, the Chief Engineer here on the Challenger.” Dael paused and did a quick glance of the room, his smile now more amused at himself for stating the obvious before adding: “Of course you probably already realized that what with me being in this office. How was your trip aboard?”
