OOC: Just a thread to throw us into the main sim! This thread runs alongside the other main sim threads, feel free to join us if you’re not already busy, especially medical cadets!

IC:
Yet another quiet period for the staff of Challengers sickbay, with some of the crew off-ship and some busy working on the issue at hand however, T’Saie was confident that sickbay would be needed soon. A lot of the cadets had simply been completing tasks or physicals for their fellow cadets, T’Saie however could be found underneath ‘Diagnostic Biobed 3,’ tools in hand doing some maintenance on the machine.

From under the biobed, T’Saie could be heard talking, “Computer, time?” the time came back as midday, she was expecting some of her cadets to come on-duty shortly to relieve some of the staff..

● T’Saie - Lt. Jr. Grade, Chief Medical Officer, Nurse Practitioner. ●

Before the computer could respond, the com channel chimed in with the voice of the Challenger’s security chief.

”=/\= Anders to Sickbay, we’ve got wounded on Holodeck One, stand by for emergency transport. =/\=”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security- (Crosspost)
After a brief moment, the doors open, and a Cadet enters the Sickbay, breathing loudly and sweating. “Ah…ah…Cadet…Williams…Ma’am! I’ve just heard the communication! I came as fast as I could!”

After he catches his breath, he noticed the fact that the Lieutenant was under a Biobed, tools in hand. While she was getting up, he took a tricorder, open one of the medkits, and began the verification. Hypospray, medical scanner, Cordrazine, Tri-ox,… I think it’s all good.
He packed up the kit, ready to go.

Cadet Williams

T’Saie slid out from under the biobed, soon seeing Williams packing up a medkit she stopped him in his tracks, “We’ve got wounded being transported in, prepare diagnostic bed one.” she requested keenly, intent on having the cadet put his training to good use.

Swiftly, she stood up, tapping her combadge as she moved towards the biobed herself:

=/\= “Acknowledged, transport when ready.” =/\= (Crosspost)

● T’Saie - Lt. Jr. Grade, Chief Medical Officer, Nurse Practitioner. ●
“Understood”, replied Aaron. He put back the medkit and approached biobed 1. Focus, Aaron. This is for real now.

He launches the bed’s trauma and surveillance program. The computer begins to start up, his interface blinking and showing empty graphics and data. A window appears, asking for calibrations. “Please enter physicals information about the patient.”, he read. Do we have those?

“Ma’am, I’ll need the race and the gender of the patient for calibration. Should I contact the security team?”, he asked, as his chief was approaching the biobed.

Cadet Aaron Williams

(OOC: Miya’s time aboard has been agreed with the DH.)

She had been aboard the Challenger for a week. It had been at once the longest and the shortest week of her life.

The longest, because there was so much to learn and to do: Miya felt like she was absorbing new knowledge not only when she was on-shift, in sickbay, but off-shift as well. Not just medical knowledge, though there was much to learn, but social adaptations like getting to know the other cadets; finding her way around the ship - knowing the schematics was not the same as actually using the short-cuts between different locations, she’d realised - and generally settling in to life aboard a working starship. And it was also the shortest week because, no matter what she crammed into a day, it seemed to be over in an instant and she’d wake the next morning, ready to learn and do and be all over again.

It was exhausting. It was exhilarating. It was everything she’d hoped a shipboard posting would be .... except that the sickbay had been relatively quiet so far, which made her wonder what she would feel like when the place was busy! Hopefully she’d manage; that’s what this training period was for, after all - to learn to adapt to conditions on board a starship.

As she walked into sickbay for the start of her shift, it looked as if something was finally happening. Lieutenant T’Saie and one of her fellow cadets, Williams, were at biobed one; Miya overheard a question about asking security for information. “I’m reporting for my shift, sir,” she said, moving towards the biobed. “Do we have a medical emergency?” She hoped she didn’t sound too eager. It wasn’t that she was wishing ill on anyone; she just wanted to learn!

[Cadet Ven Miya]

[Crosspost from the Holodeck]
“Alright, first transport coming up,” Benem said and effectuated the command. WantsToGolf started to dissipate into a blue, humming mass of photons before reappearing again on the floor in the middle of sickbay. =^=Special delivery, sickbay.=^=

-Cadet d’Qorvos [ Security ]

Sickbay suddenly became busy in the blink of an eye, thankfully a number of cadets had come on-station to help with the emergency. As Cadet Ven Miya entered, the Ensign inconveniently got beamed onto the floor of sickbay, T’Saie might need to have a word with the transporter technician.

T’Saie snapped around to Ven Miya, gesturing for Williams to follow her to the injured Ensign, “Cadet, help Williams lift the Ensign onto the biobed.” Also giving the nurse on-station a nod to help when needed.

● T’Saie - Lt. Jr. Grade, Chief Medical Officer, Nurse Practitioner. ●

(OOC: please IGNORE this post as it has been superseded by another, thanks to some inadvertent cross-posting. If someone could delete this post, I’d be really grateful - thank you!)

Mia gasped as the hum of a transporter beam faded, revealing a female ensign lying on the sickbay floor. The accompanying comm message made her frown - as far as she was concerned, it was too flippant for such a potentially serious situation. “Work on your transporter technique - the bed’s not that hard to find!” she muttered to herself, annoyed.

As Lieutenant T’saie ordered the cadets to pick up the patient, Miya replied, “Yes, sir!” and approached the injured ensign. She carried out a quick risk assessment, controlling a wince when she noticed the position of the patient’s ankle. Looks like a nasty break there. The sooner we get her on a diagnostic bed, the better, but moving her is likely to hurt ....

“Lieutenant?” Miya turned towards T’saie, keeping her voice low. “Sir, could we offer the patient some pain relief before moving her? That ankle looks pretty unstable to me.”

(OOC: position of patient’s ankle is taken from the original post in the holodeck thread - I hope that’s okay!)

[Cadet Ven Miya]

OOC: Just going to sneak past Nathan’s post regarding split threads, excellent advice so please read it if you haven’t already! I believe your other thread got deleted, Claire, so no worries about that! Also it’s fine in this situation that you got information about the ankle, especially as you could probably see the situation in-front of you however unless it’s something not so obvious, you’d usually use machines to find that info out.

Also, a good lesson here! The Ensign in this situation is a “Nameless Ensign” made by one of the staff who also came up with the name “NE WantsToGolf!” This means that they’re made up crew members who aren’t rostered and you’ll most likely never hear from again. I’ll get some more info for you all in the next posts.

Also on that note, as Sickbays aren’t usually drastically under-crewed we’d usually have support staff such as nurses or medics on standby, in this case it’s Nurse Lawrence. They aren’t here to do your job for you but to help you with your medical duties, let me know if you want any more info on this.

IC:
“Challenger is the final stretch of your training, I trust you to make decisions as medical professionals.” T’Saie responded, talking to both of the cadets. Quickly, she snapped around to head to the nurses station as Nurse Lawrence made her way to the cadets and the Ensign with a medkit..

● T’Saie - Lt. Jr. Grade, Chief Medical Officer, Nurse Practitioner. ●

“I think you’re right, Ven”, says Aaron, after the Lieutenant talked. “Some pain relief will really help her.” He began to sweat. Even if it was just an ankle, the worse could lead to a handicap. First great responsibilities, he thought. Well, make it so.

He caught the medical kit from the nurse, open it, and takes a hypospray from it. He then searches for pain relief. If I remember correctly, 10 cc’s of anetrizine should be enough. Aaron put the medical drug inside the syringe and start to raise the leg’s pant of the Enseign. “On three”, he said.

“Three !” he shouts, as he injects the pain relief inside the Enseign leg. He saw surprise mixed with pain on the Enseign face. Off we go, he thought. He packed up the medkit, and looked at Ven: “Now let’s transport her on the biobed, shall we ?”
