USS Challenger

Sickbay: reporting for duty/medical check-in for Cadet Ven Miya

<snip>

An eyebrow was raised at the cadets mannerisms as she made an observation that they may be nervous about joining Challenger, although not an unexpected as most cadets tend to share this particular emotion. T’Saie rose from her seat, heading towards the replicator, “Computer,” she began, “One Vulcan Mocha, sweet. One water.” she instructed.

Both in hand, she sharply turned around, “What brings you to Challenger?” she quizzed, beginning to build a profile of the Cadet as she placed both beverages on the desk before sitting down, intently listening.

● T’Saie - Lt. Jr. Grade, Chief Medical Officer, Nurse Practitioner. ●

Miya noted the lieutenant’s choice of beverage, as well as the eyebrow twist, adding them to her assessment of the woman who may be her new head of department. Or maybe not - I still don’t know who she is! The lieutenant’s question again made Miya hesitate for a fraction of a second. The strictly correct answer was that she’d been ordered by Starfleet Academy to report to the ship, but she doubted that was the intention behind her query.

With a silent call to the Prophets for support, Miya took a deep breath and replied, “My instructors at Starfleet Academy said I was ready for some real-world experience, sir. I’ve completed my basic medical training, as well as electives in xenomedicine and psychology, among others, and I’m looking forward to working as part of the sickbay team for the duration of my time on the Challenger.” She reached out one hand, picked up her glass and took a sip. The water was cool, soothing a throat dry with nerves. Calm down. You’ve come through all your exams, all your practicals, you’ve got some of the best scores in your class - you’re here at last. There’s no need to be nervous, not now!

“Thank you for the water,” she added quickly, so the lieutenant didn’t think she was mannerless.

[Cadet Ven Miya]

A nod was handed in response to the cadets manners, “Psychology?” she questioned, curious as to what field of study they were aspiring to enter.

T’Saie cradled her mocha, pondering for a moment. Her eyes snapped back to the cadet, “I haven’t introduced myself, I am T’Saie. Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Challenger.”

She then paused a moment before speaking, “So, Cadet Ven Miya. Where do you want to be in five years?” she inquired curiously.
