The counselor’s office was barely a stone’s throw away from sickbay–which made sense, once Ben considered it. Since he was cleared as healthy as any young Trill could be, he was free to make his way towards his last stop of the day. Still lugging his heavy bag along, Ben approached the door and entered.

“I’m here to see Lt. Commander Lofton?” he asked the first person he saw that looked like they belonged here. “I’m Cadet d’Qorvos.”

The dark haired woman he addressed was fiddling with a conical device, and she turned as he spoke, a bright smile on her face. “Ah, hello! Benem, right?” She seemed to find what she was looking for and stood upright as a fine mist came from the machine, and soon the scent of lavender filled the air. “Forgive me, finally getting around to setting this thing up. I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton, but please call me Vanessa. Please, have a seat!” She gestured toward the seating area, filling by a large blue L-shaped sectional sofa, over which hung a painting of a man in a tuxedo and a barefoot woman in a red evening gown dancing on a wet beach. A matching red vase held white daisies on a nearby end table.

“I was just about to get myself a hot chocolate. Would you like anything?”
