Maddie breathes calmly throughout the duration of Carmen’s tri-corder scan of her body. She had many experiences with doctors throughout her lifetime and fortunately this was just a simple check-in procedure that all Starfleet members go through when joining a new ship. After the conclusion of Carmen’s scans, Maddie tilts her head slightly with a curious look on her face. “Aside from missing a couple of organs, how do I look?”.

“You look…” she said, trailing off to focus on the scans. “You look totally healthy, minus a few organs. Just so you know, we can grow replacements for those ‘non-essential’ organs too, if you’d like.”
She typed a few things into her PADD. “Alright, I just have a few questions for you and then you’re good to go.”
She sat down on a stool next to the bed, and turned to face her patient. “Do you have any past medical conditions I should be aware of? Besides the missing organs, of course.”

After Madison listened to the fellow Cadet’s analysis of her medical state. She responded initially by furrowing her brow in confusion in response to Carmen’s question about her previous medical conditions. “Did Starfleet still not upload my medical file to the Challenger?” She sighed just for a split moment in disappointment. “If they haven’t they really should get on it. Not that it is your fault, I just prefer efficiency on their end.” She finishes her slight venting. She had been to Starfleet Medical on two separate occasions over the past six months and had answered that question in the past. She then reflects for a moment raising her index finger. “Oh wait a moment Carmen. Is this part of your training regimen? Either way, please note that I am allergic to penicillin.” Maddie then gestured to her left achilles heel like it was on display at an exhibit. “I tore my achilles tendon during my senior year in high school running on the track team. It was quite painful, a career ending injury. In reference to the missing organs, they can remain missing since they are non-essential. No sense in carrying the extra dead weight around with me either.” She said with a touch of humor and the flash of a lovely grin. “What else did you need to know for your report Carmen?”.

Carmen scrolled through her file, making sure everything she said lined up. “Yes, we’re all supposed to ask this with every new patient. Most of them don’t have exams as often as you do, so it’s good to check just in case.” Carmen shrugged, asking didn’t bother her, but she could feel Maddie’s frustration with the redundancy. “Don’t worry, the rest of my questions are more pertinent. Have you had any problems sleeping, either falling asleep, staying asleep, waking up, or staying awake?”

Maddie leans inward slightly still meeting Carmen’s gaze. “I have not had any significant issues falling asleep. In fact, I typically sleep like a baby. I have no problems remaining awake either unless it is for several days. Everyone eventually succumbs to their comfy beds at one point or another.” She rubs her hands together to create warmth. “It is a tad chilly in here. Now, what else did you need to know?”

“That’s good that you’re sleeping fine. Many people struggle sleeping on a starship, so if any problems arise just come and tell me.” Carmen had no problem adjusting to a starship, she had traveled throughout space for her whole life. “Have you been on a starship before?” she asked, just out of curiosity.
Carmen hadn’t noticed it was cold, either. Alpha 5 was always sorta cold. Carmen leaned forward towards the bio-bed controls, twisting the localized temperature knob. “That should be better. Have you had any space sickness, nausea, headaches, migraines, or any other symptoms?”
