Mason Austin entered the counselor’s office.

“Hi, I’m Mason Austin, new cadet, here for my start of duty evaluation.”

Mason was nervous but he is familiar with visiting therapist because he has had to see them most of his life.

The doors opened to a seating area filled by a blue L-shaped sectional sofa, which immediately set the theme for the room. The carpet was a lighter shade of blue, while the wall behind the sofa was a dark blue. The color was finally broken by a painting over the sofa, of a human couple - a woman in a red backless evening gown dancing barefoot on a wet beach with a man in a tuxedo; to either side stood a butler and a maid, holding umbrellas and clutching their headgear. A red vase, the same shade as the woman’s dress, sat on an end table on one side of the couch, holding white daisies.

Staring at the daisies was the counselor, dark hair reaching just below the shoulders of her blue-shouldered Starfleet uniform. She turned and greeted him with a bright smile. “Yes, hi, Mason!” She gestured to the vase. “Could I get your opinion real quick? Does this look better here…” She lifted the vase and brought it to the end table at the long end of the L. “… or here?”

She made a face. “I just can’t tell which I like more.”
