Dael nodded to Sapeth as he exited in acknowledgement and in thanks for solving his interruption conundrum. He was working on improving his interactions in a social setting since his new role started. Even as a Betazoid, Dael had always preferred uncomplicated things, an easy to understand EPS circuit instead of the swirl of emotions and stray thoughts a person made up that his telepathic self knew only too well. But his superiors had trusted he could handle this new role and so he would.

Walking in, the young man scanned the room to take in Cadet Las and the plant on Sapeth… his desk. “A pet vine! I haven’t seen one of these since I was a kid.” He said, settling the PADDs on the desk in a clatter and extended his finger towards the plant. It whipped towards the finger and tugged hard on it as Dael tried to remove his digit from its grasp. “Pesky little things they can be.” He told the Cadet as he managed to free his finger. After a quick glance to confirm it was fine, he ran the hand through his short brown hair and turned his black irises eyes towards Cadet Las as he took a seat.

“Welcome to the Challenger cadet! I’m Lt Dael Stadi, the new Chief Engineer, Sapeth has been kind enough to help out a bit with the paperwork and new cadets as things get settled.” He grabbed a PADD from the pile on the table and gave it a few taps. “Cadet Kiasees Las, right? So, what brings you to the Engineering deck of a Starfleet vessel today?”

“Oh I was hoping to get a look around before coming here but alas, I stumbled to where I’m told I was supposed to check in. This is only my 2nd Star Fleet craft, if you include the Runabout. Are you my CO now?”

OOC: Glad to have you back! This is also a good chance for me to touch on snipping, like I did above. When threads start to get overloaded with posts, to avoid scrolling through so many to see a new reply, we snip them! When you feel a thread is beginning to get long, just go back a few posts to leave for context (good rule of thumb is two or three unless the have critical information earlier than that), delete the old stuff earlier than those and write “<snip>” in their place so we know what happened to them.

“Yes I’m the new head of Engineering. Sapeth was a great mentor but every now and again on Academy ships, department heads are reassigned after a time, giving cadets a chance to learn leadership roles and an experienced officer to the Fleet.”

Dael looked at the young cadet, remembering when he was back in her shoes. He tapped the PADD in his hand rhythmically on the desk as he continued. “But don’t worry, we’ll get you a tour sorted out after you’re done checking in, and access to the ships specs. Can’t be a good tech without those. But what I’m curious about is what brings you into Starfleet, and the field of Engineering specifically?”
