“Valakis, was an M-Class planet discovered by the NX-01,” he said casually using the designator for the first Enterprise. “They had two native species the Valakian and the Menk. The Valakian’s had a rare genetic mutation that were causing them to go extinct. In 2236 they were admitted to the Federation and the planet was renamed Menk, due to the whole power shift in dominant species. Anyway, our steller cartography maps are rather dated and while warp capable they lack the resources to properly map their whole system, so if the Challenger could do a drive by and do some scans that would be swell also…” Buress cleared is throat, “There are some ruins on one of the moons of another planet in the system believed to be remnants of the Valakian attempt to find a cure for their affliction tensons are running high so if your team could verify the authenticity of the ruins that would also be swell.”

As the Admiral talked, it definitely jogged Alison’s memory. She remembered learning about the Valakian and the Menk in one of her classes, as it was a very interesting case study for her exobiology course.

But updating the maps and authenticating some ruins, seemed like a pretty straight forward mission.

Kyle lookd over at Lieutenant Barr and grinned with a look that seemed to say, What could possibly go wrong?

“A … drive… by?” spilled out of Emmy’s mouth before she could stop it. As far as she was aware, the Challenger could not drive, but, her eyes flicking to the CSO and the COS, she imagined that was not what she was supposed to query the Admiral on. “Understood, Admiral,” she responded. “Is there anything else?” In order to use their time efficiently, she turned to the helm. “Set a course and engage,” she instructed.

“A drive by. You know, on your way home slow down and take some scans then speed up again to head home,” the Admiral perhaps not so helpfully explained before smiling. “Be sure to get as much as possible. I am sure there will be some shadows from the planets but it really shouldn’t take long. Easy peasy. Buress out.”

And with that the connection clicked off and the helm touched the go button as the Challenger sailed through space towards their destination. “We should arrive in the system in about twelve hours, ma’am.” the NE reported back simply and equally efficient.
