Carmen made her way down the hall and knocked quietly on the Counselor’s door.“Come in!” sounded through the door panel, and the doors swished open to a human woman in a standard Starfleet uniform, clad with medical blue on the shoulders and cuffs. Her dark hair was done up in a bun, held in place by a wooden skewer, as she stood off to one side of the room watering a group of white daisies in a red vase.
The woman smiled brightly. “Hello! You must be Carmen. Please, have a seat.” She gestured toward the light blue L-shaped sectional sofa beside the end table the vase sat on. The carpet in the room was a slightly lighter shade of blue, while the wall behind the couch was a darker shade; above the couch hung a painting of a human couple - a man in a tuxedo and a barefoot woman in a red evening gown - dancing on a wet beach, a butler and maid to either side holding umbrellas and clutching their headgear.
“I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton, the Challenger’s counselor, but in here, please call me Vanessa,” she continued, walking across the room toward a small desk, where she placed the watering can, then approached the replicator behind the desk. “Would you like something to drink?”
OOC: Hi Anna, welcome to the Challenger! The counselor check-in thread is where we’ll delve into what makes your character tick, her desires and motivations. I love that you’ve set up your character bio already, and hopefully we’ll have stuff you can add to it from here. I can’t wait to write with you!

Carmen looked over the room with a glance, before perching herself carefully on the blue sofa, her ankles crossed in a perfect Duchess slant, her hands folded in her lap. “Just water, please.”

Vanessa nodded. “One water and one hot chocolate, on a tray,” she requested, lifting the items once the whine of the system wound down. She carried it across the room and handed the glass of water to Carmen, lifting her own mug and setting the tray beneath the end table.
“First of all, this is an informal session,” she began. “This isn’t some sort of ‘test’; you wouldn’t be here if Starfleet didn’t think you were ready. So congratulations; you’re about to complete your doctorate and be commissioned as an officer in Starfleet. It’s one of the most difficult tracts in the fleet.” She sipped her cocoa, folding her legs to one side beneath her on the couch, turning her body to face the young cadet.
“What do you want to see yourself accomplish in the fleet?”
Vanessa liked this question. It wasn’t a ‘gotcha’ as some people thought; how people interpreted the questions was often as important as what the actual answer was.
