Max had unpacked what few personal items he possessed into the bunk area of his shared quarters. It was important to him that his space not look cluttered. There was, after all, no reason to store items that could easily be replicated as the need arose. Still, there was the matter of his prized possession, six leaf fossils suspended in a clear resin cube. He polished one side with his sleeve, freeing it of his own finger prints before setting it gently on the small wooden stand that held it at an angle for the ideal display. That was it. This, for the time being at least, was now home. He smoothed his uniform, ensuring he was looking his absolute best before departing his quarters and heading straight to sickbay. He idly turned the PADD containing his meager service record in his hands as he walked, observing everything around him while careful not to appear like he was a tourist taking in the sights. Arriving just outside of sickbay he stopped for a moment to observe the medical staff as they moved about. He smiled, once again assured that he was in the right place, both physically and in terms of his career choice. He entered, looking around somewhat nervously. He found a crewman technician and inquired as to the CMO’s office. Approaching the door, Max rotated his head to relax his neck before pressing the keypad beside the door to request entry, pausing as he waited for permission and mentally repeating the first words he would utter upon entry, “Cadet Woolley, reporting for duty as ordered” before presenting his new CMO with the PADD and embarking on his Starfleet future.
Doctor Woolley
MedicineOOC: Always remember to sign off with the name of your character! :)
IC:“Come in!”
Inside, the room was rather simple, as the doctor truly did not have the time to make it much more than it had been offered to her. Regulation seating, a monitor, everything which had become commonplace for the office of a medical official, remained organized and positioned in a manner that begged one to claim the CMO OCD. Not that they would ever bother to confirm or deny this assumption, but the evidence was still there. Situated behind the desk, a dark skinned Trill was working at their PaDD. Although, this was no ordinary Trill. Instead of dark, black spots running down their sides; pale, cream toned spots made their way from their forehead to their sides. This, without doubt, was the mark of a vitiligo.
“Doctor!” A feminine smile appeared across their face, eyes raising from a PaDD to find the newfound cadet, who had been previously noted to join their ranks. “Please, have a seat.” They rose to their feet, gesturing with a slim hand, for the young cadet to take a seat. Rising to their feet, they straightened the uniform that clad their wiry body, inclining their head to the young man. “I am Doctor Obiah Torrirs. You must be Cadet Woolley, Maximilian, yes?” They asked, as if to clarify.
Lt. Obiah Torrirs
CMOMax made a quick visual inventory of the room, rigidly standing for a moment as he said “Good morning, Lieutenant. Cadet Maximilian Woolley reporting for duty.”
“A pleasure, Cadet.” They offered a rather kind smile to him, in hopes of maintaining a certain amicability between her and the cadets who worked beside her.
His formality and rigidity seemed to be disarmed by Dr. Torrirs’s cordial welcome. Noting their gesture, he slipped into the seat and placed his PADD on the desk between them. As his academic record would show, Max was certainly a capable student. Though his strength undoubtedly was more academic while the customs and courtesies of military life required more effort on his part.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Doctor. I’m very much looking forward to learning as much as I can during my training here.”

“I am glad to find an eager student in you, Woolley,” The person remarked, adjusting themself in their seat, as they leaned back in the slightest, crossing their ankles.
“Tell me, Cadet. What are your hopes for the outcome of you time on the Challenger?” They wanted to understand a bit more of where this man was coming from and where he wanted to go. In simple manners, they were just testing the waters with him.
Lt. Torrirs
OOC: I am so sorry about the wait!
TrinOOC: No problem! Glad to pick it up again!
Max smiled a bit at the positive interaction thus far, placing his palms on his knees as he spoke to his new CMO.
“I went to graduate school to learn how to be a biologist. I went to medical school to learn how to be a physician. I view my time on the Challenger as my opportunity to learn how to be a Starfleet Officer and to integrate those other skills into the fleet. It’s one thing to be a doctor. To be a doctor aboard a federation starship is another thing entirely.”
He paused for a moment as he leaned back in his chair. Removing his hands from his knees as he gestured thoughtfully following his pause.
“Of course, this is also just the next learning experience. After this, I expect I’ll take that learning a step further on a non-training ship. And I’m sure subsequent assignments will offer me even more lessons as my career progresses.” he added. Max wasn’t trying to fill in the perfect answer. He was just a lifelong student who viewed his cycle of learning as never ending. While many of his classmates counted down the credits toward earning degrees, Max would often have graduation sneak up on him as he was focused on the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
Max Woolley, Medical
“It would seem you have dreams for the future, Doctor. It is always wise to dream,” They offered a smile towards the man that st vertical from them, lasting into a brief silence to study his appearance for a moment, taking in any indiosyncracies their attentive gaze could pick out from the myriad of small actions and subconscious movements that people made, when sitting idly. They wondered how pleasant of a student he had been, but assumed he was one of the far more observant ones, judging by his speech patterns and responses.
“It is a pleasure to have you with us, Doctor. Just like your classrooms, you will face trials and tribulations upon this ship, both in the form of academics and in the actual work force. There are many similarities between the classroom and this ship, but the most defining of differences is the presence of actual patients. You will be asked to tend to people, just as any other doctor would and will have certain freedoms that pertain to your skill and position. As of right now, the best few days will be spent with introductory. Afterwards, you will move into other things.”
“In a ‘for instance’ situation, what do you foresee yourself doing in Starfleet? Do you have any specific assignments you wish to get to? Any goals you wish to accomplish? Anything that will be a medal on your chest, metaphorically?”
