“They wanted me to pass along their apologies for not having anyone here to meet you when you arrived, but there was a minor emergency. In the meantime, they wanted me to let you know that your quarters are ready on Deck 3, and that the Captain will meet you in her ready room as soon as you are settled in.”

Alison blinked, she wasn’t sure what to think. While it wasn’t exactly normal, she also wasn’t sure what she expected upon her arrival. This was only her second ship board assignment, and they didn’t exactly cover what the normal procedures for welcoming new crew members on board was back at the Academy. “Thank you Chief. I guess I’ll make my way up to my quarters first.”

“Very good. I’ll let the bridge know that you arrived, and once again, welcome to the Challenger.”

After dropping her bags off in her quarters, Alison headed for the bridge. There was no reason to put of the formalities, especially if they already knew she had arrived. It would only be a matter of time before she got called out if she waited to long. As she stood in the turbolift headed to the bridge, she quickly checked her uniform, and took a second to calm herself. It was just another assignment, and everything would be fine. Nothing to be worried about.

When the turbolift doors opened, she took a deep breath and walked right towards the ready room. Before she could overthink it, or second guess herself, she hit the chime. No going back now.
