Eric stood up as Lofton approached. “Counselor, welcome aboard Counselor. Glad you were able to find us,” he said with a grin, shanking hands. “I trust there were no difficulties in arriving with our latest arrivals from the Academy?”

Vanessa laughed brightly. “Other than being the proverbial pariah, no, it was fine. They didn’t know what to make of me in their midst. Looking over their profiles,” she lifted her PADD, “they seem a good bunch. I can’t wait to meet them.” She pressed a button on the PADD and arched an eyebrow. “Looks like I have a busy day tomorrow doing just that.”

She looked around the bridge. “Obviously, my first duty is settling in the cadets and helping them during the course of the cruise.” She turned back to the pair. “How much will you need my assistance here?”

Emmy carefully set down the PaDD that had held her attention for Lofton’s brief introduction. She rocked to her feet and turned to face the new counselor, displaying efficiency in her movement as her brown eyes surveyed the woman. Without giving Holmman a chance to respond, she interjected, “typically, no, although our previous Counselor served as acting Executive Officer for a brief stint while Commander Holmman was relieved of duty.” She seemed to be unaware that the information she shared might lead to some interesting questions from the new addition.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders strode into the shuttlebay to get a good luck at the Security cadets he’d be interviewing later that day. He smiled warmly at the Captain and XO and said, “Captain, Commander, hope you don’t mind me getting a look at the new blood.” He turned to the new counselor after noticing she was standing there, “And you must be Commander Lofton,” he smiled and extended his hand, “Kyle Anders, Chief of Security, at your service.”
