OOC: So sorry for the delay in responding to this post! I’ve been getting settled into a new job and that’s been more time consuming than I anticipated. I’ve been loving this thread and your character is fascinating! I really appreiciate all the thought you’ve put into writing him.

IC: Hilo nodded in understanding. “Alright, Mr. Riley. I’ll ask for the captain’s permission to disable your holodeck controls. IC: Riley let out a breath he hadn’t realised he was holding and visible relaxed, tension easing from his body. “Thank you, Counselor,” he managed, without choking. “That was my plan, not to enter one without someone else present. Preferably lots of people.”

He sat back to consider the questions. “I’m… not the most outgoing person, but I get along with people pretty well. My previous supervising officer and I had a but of a personality conflict, but nothing too bad - you can probably read about it in my review. I enjoy working with people, actually. Different eyes, different ideas, work very well in the sciences.”

Hilo nodded in approval. “It certainly sounds like you have ample understanding of your strengths and areas for improvement. And an open mind is essential in Starfleet, so that’s good to hear. Have you met Lieutenant McMorran? Do you anticipate a personality conflict with her?” His question was posed neutrally, but his head tilted slightly to one side, as if considering what he thought the answer would be himself, now that he knew both the cadet and his department head.

Riley nodded, folding his hands before him. “I have, just to report for duty.” He paused for a moment, rolling the meeting-slash-interview over in his mind. “I don’t think there will be any conflict there,” he said slowly. “She’s very… forthright might be the best word. I am not,” he chuckled, “but that could be a good influence to have.”

Hilo’s mouth slowly spread into a playful grin. “That’s a good word to describe Lieutenant McMorran,” he agreed. “Decisiveness and self-advocacy are both skills that serve her well, and will hopefully rub off on you too.”

The counselor clapped his hands together. “Well! If you have no other questions for me, I think it’s about time we send you on your way! Wouldn’t want to keep you from fulfilling your duties.” Hilo looked at Riley questioningly, to make sure there was nothing further he wanted to discuss.
